HELP!! Yorkie/Rat Terrier is Pregnant by my boyfriends Australian Cattle Dog!! Help!! I will be taking her asap to the vet but can anybody give me any idea whats in the future for us? My 2yr old yorkie/rat terrier is pregnant by my boyfriends Australian Cattle Dog. We made sure to keep them apart but one night "It Happened". I felt so bad for her she is about 12 pounds and he about 45 pounds, she is probably between 30 and 45 days. Right now she is panting alot, tummy tight. Do I have an emergency! And will she be able to have these puppys? and how many? Help Please |
My friend was in a similiar situtation. Her 7 lbs Yorkie was pregnant with a 35 - 40 lb Sheltie. She was about 40 days along and they could see that there was only one puppy and way to big for her so they took the baby and had her spayed. As sad as it was, it was a good thing they did because the x-rays were too early and the puppy was even bigger than they estimated. I would have your vet check her out as soon as possible. |
Only a vet can answer your questions with an x-ray. |
the puppies are most likely to be too big for her to deliver. you should most likely have her spayed asap. let us know what the vet says, welcome to yt! |
I agree with the above threads. Go see a vet asap! |
We made sure to keep them apart but one night "It Happened". How many times have I heard this......................... Sorry - but these things don't "just happen." And, if we aren't breeding or showing - these little dogs should be spayed. (And - your boyfriend's dog should probably have been neutered.....) **** I think it's sad when our little pets have to go through these pregnancies (sometimes to completion with dire consequences) or have to have surgery -- which can also be very dangerous --- because we didn't get them spayed or really didn't keep a careful eye on them when they were in heat. Especially these tiny little Yorkies -- so much more so than any other breed. Yes - I definitely think a consultation with a vet is in order. Let us know what your vet says --- Carol Jean |
your dog may die if you let her have these puppys and why have you waited so long to wonder about doing something about it. you could easily keeps a female dog away from male dogs when they are in heat use a baby gate close a door on a room keep them in site! you should take her to the vet . |

You should have terminated the pregnancy instead of waiting 45 days. |
Don't like to be harsh, however this is one of the reason I like the mandatory spay law! |

I am not a breeder but common sense would tell me to get her to the vet as soon as it happened or to at least contact the vet to find out what needed to be done. My fear also would have been that during the breeding process, he could have hurt her beyond repair. I think I would have used a belly band or put a pad on the girl during the night to eliminate the possibility of them getting together. OR, put one or the other or both in a kennel when they were not being watched. I hope you get her to the vet immediately and hope that she will be okay. |
a 12 pound dog pregnant by a 45 lb dog ? Oh man - PLEASE stay on top of that - I would have terminated that one too as Kristy said - and your vet should be advising you on how to handle this - I don't think your girl can or should deliver these puppies...the puppies may be way bigger than she can handle and she will need probably need a C section for sure. I'd be worried if it were my female. :( everyone is right - IF you spay her and neuter him and you won\'t have to worry about this again. I hope she\'ll be ok - poor girl !! Good luck !! |
:eyeballpc Yes! Get her to a vet immediately! Yes! You have a big problem on your hands! |
Why are you just now being concerned about this? Sorry, but this makes me very angry. This could have been taken care of the day after "it happened". This poor dog of yours is suffering. Take it to a vet and have her spayed immediately or your WILL lose your dog. |

It makes me very angry, too. How does one wait 45 days to figure out something to do. Poor dog is definitely in grave danger. I am guessing we won\'t ever get an update on this though. |
