My Jolene is sick... I replied to a post on Sunday about Jolene having hacking cough. Well, it got much worse and today I took her to the vet. She has been diagnosed with a fever, kennel cough, early pneumonia and a possible collapsing trachea!! So, she is on cough meds, antibiotics, antihistamines and we have to keep a close watch on her for complications. They were going to give her some subcutaneous fluid, but I told them she has been eating and drinking fine, and they said she didn't appear dehydrated. I have no idea where she could have gotten it from, as she hasn't even been out of the house, not even to potty, in over a week. She uses puppy pads and we tilled up out yard so I haven't wanted her to get out in the mud. They said that with the trachea issue, we would watch her after she clears from this problem and see if she continues to have the barking cough when excited. If so, the more meds and evaluations. Keep your fingers crossed that she gets better soon. It is so sad watching her not feel good. |
Best wishes for a fast recovery..please keep us psoted... |
Keep us updated on her progress. I certainly hope she gets much better soon! |
I hope little Jolene feels better soon!! :getwellso |
Thanks for the well wishes...Right now, she is buried in a fleece blanket in my lap. She seems to be cold, so she will get a sweatshirt to wear tonight. And, no crate for her tonight, in the bed she will go!! I can tell she still has a bit of a fever, but at least she has a decent appetite. Thanks again. |
Get Well Jolene I hope Jolene gets over this quickly and has no other problems. I know how hard it is to see them sick. I just paused and said a special prayer for her. God Bless & Get Well Soon Jolene!!! |

I was just reading about the Canine Flu and the symptoms sounds similar. You may want to ask your vet tomorrow. Here is the link to the American Veterinary Medical Association about the Flu: http://www.avma.org/public_health/in...guidelines.asp I pray she gets better soon too. Keep her warm and give her hugs and kisses from Jazzie & me. |

Jen -- I am so very sorry that Jolene is feeling "under the weather". I hope she was comfortable and slept through the night in mama's arms. :) Sending hugs and get well quick wishes. :getwell: How is Jolene feeling this morning? Dan and Corinne - thanks for the heads up about the canine influenza. I am sure that there are a lot of folks here that will benefit from your post. I read the info and I will certainly "file" it in memory just in case I get a sick one. :) |
I'll be thinking about all of you. I hope Jolene gets better soon! |
Poor Baby...I hope she starts feeling better soon - you must be so worried. Sending Get Well wishes your way right now.... |
Thanks Corrine for posting this article http://www.avma.org/public_health/in...guidelines.as I would like to add after reading it that the percentage rate (of deaths caused by this disease) is questionable to me. My reason for feeling this way is because our neighbors down the road from us lost three beagles the week before Cassie passed and then I found out another neighbor down the road lost his dog the same week, they all lived west of our place, the three beagles were all sent off for autopsy and it came back undetermined cause, the vet also sent them off to another state to double verify the results, same results. They ruled out parvo and everything else and the vet said that the Canine Flu Virus is what he thought it was but couldn't prove it. Very scarey. Prayers that your Jolene is doing ok now, please keep up updated on her, thanks, Patti |
Wednesday evening update on Jolene... I am now in from work and JoJo has been in the hubby's care all day. Kills me that I can't be home to "nurse" her as that is truly what I know. Had to go take care of the human patients today. Heres my report... I got up with her at 5:00 am when I usually get up, she had slept well through the night with just a few coughing spells, no vomiting, which was good since she was in my new bed!! Gave her all the meds and hand fed her some canned Innova, she ate a bit over 1/4 can, the large one. I was happy with that. Drank a bit of water and was back in bed before I made it to the shower. Ken said she slept most of the day but did get a bit more playful this evening. She is wearing her fleece jogger that is worn and tattered from BarkingDogClothes, but hey, it keeps her warm. I really need to get her some new duds before winter!! He said he tried to take it off several times and she ran away form him, so he figured she wanted it on. I tried when I came home and she squirms to keep her head in, so I guess she'll wear it until it completely falls apart. He said the coughing was a bit better through the day than it has been and since I've been home only one episode. Still sleeping alot and her appetite isn't quite as good as normal, but she does not feel fevered anymore. We haven't noticed anymore of the vomiting and I listened to her lungs and they are about the same, no better, no worse. Hydration status appears good. So, I think we are making a slow improvement... Thank you so much for all who have expressed a concern and have offered prayers, advice and support. My YT family absolutely ROCKS!! I will post again after work tomorrow evening. |
So glad to hear she is better! I just found this thread...glad to see that she is on the mend! Hope and pray that she continues to improve! |
