The vet asked for a stool sample to see if he is still bleeding even tho the stools are normal color now. So I am waiting to hear back. If he finds any blood in his stools he wants to do a blood workup.

A while back my husband went away for 5 days and I experienced an extremely depressed and stressed out pup. I would bring Sedrick home from puppy daycare and he would immediately look for his papa and when he could not find him he would go and sit in his bed and sulk. Any amount of coaxing would not bring him around not even going for our nightly walks - he would run in the house and look everywhere for his papa and then return to his bed and sulk!! This went on for the entire time he was gone and on the night he returned Sedrick was so happy that he would not leave his side for fear that he would leave again. When we came home the next day we noticed that one of the cats or puppies had vomited clear liquid in several spots of the room and we figured it was our 17 year old cat. My hubby was then holding Sedrick when he vomited on his shirt a clear frothy liquid. His next vomit was 10 minutes later and with a very bloody liquid. We immediately phoned the 24 hour clinic and they got him in right away. After xrays and full blood panel they could find absolutely nothing wrong and they treated him with barium and anti vomiting meds. Later that night he had a black tarry stool that after providing a sample to the vet could find nothing out of whack. 24 hours after the episode he was completely back to normal with no more vomiting. We asked the Vet if this could have been brought on by my hubby going away and he said definately yes that Sedrick had stressed himself out to the point of getting sick.

That sounds just like what Buddy went through. He started at 2:00am. His stools were very black and he was also throwing up and there was blood.
I called the vets and they referred me to an all night em vet. I rushed him
there and after 4 days and iv he came home. They never really diagnosed him
but asked me if I gave him nylabones. I said yes. They said the tiny fragments that are swallowed can tear the lining of the stomach and cause
internal bleeding. Not sure this was it but threw all four away. No problems
since, thank heavens. Does he chew nylabones, the plastic kind?

P.S.
Has he been wormed lately? If his stools have been checked and nothing
showed he could have a male parasite which does not lay eggs but can
cause havic in the intestines. Been through that as well. Good luck, hope
