Clicking noise When Izzy (7 months on Sunday) is panting I hear a little "clicking" sound, at first I thought it was just her tongue but now I think it is more in her throat. She also coughs after she runs around a lot. I read that it might be a collapsed trachea but it also might be something about a sneeze or something? I worry when she gets hot and runs around, what should I do? I live in a small town and not too sure how much the vet knows about little dogs so I thought I would turn to my friends on yorkietalk :) |

I would try the vet and see what they say. Sorry I'm not much help. I hope it's nothing serious. |
A clicking noise is sometimes associated with a collapsed trachea. Here is a little excerpt taken from the web: Another problem that can be seen in Bichons is collapsing trachea. The trachea or windpipe is a ring of cartilage in the throat and it may weaken and can collapse on itself at times. This can eventually be life threatening if it blocks the air from being taken in. You need to discuss this with your veterinarian to see if medication is needed. Signs will be a clicking sound when the dog takes a breath or signs of choking that indicate the dog cannot breathe. Try massaging the throat to see if this helps. If not, this is a medical emergency. You can research collapsed trachea at www.glassyorkies.homestead.com Select hypoglycemia on the left and then collapsed trachea. |
