Not to sure what I should do. Hello everyone. It has been a while since I have last been on here but I know someone may possibly have the answer or suggestion. My baby Rambo was playful and energetic yesterday afternoon. Once we came in the house he slept for a while, woke up, ate dinner and went back to sleep. He didn't have to go to the bathroom after he ate, but thought nothing of it he will go before I go to bed. He jumped off the couch and threw up 3 times. It was his food that he ate. I tried to give him water but he would not drink he just layed down again. We went outside went #1. Then went to sleep. He vomited again a couple of times; one was his food again and another clear vomited, and went back to sleep. I called off to make sure he was okay. I gave him Nutrical this morning and water because I was scared that he would vomit again. My mom went to check on him and said that he did not eat and would not drink really. I don't really have the money to take him to the vet right now but I was hoping someone else had this problem with there baby and make sure it is not to serious. |
with yorkies being so tiny you have to worry about them getting dehydrated. since he's throwing up and not drinking water i'm sure he's getting there. The only thing you can do for him at home is monitor him and make sure he's eating, plus try and get some food into him. Try boiled chicken and rice. get him to eat something. Your best bet is to take him to the vet. |
Not eating and not drinking is not a good sign. Will he eat when tempted with chicken or drink when tempted with chicken broth? If he totally avoids food and water, I would suspect parvo. What does his shot record look like? |
How old is he and how big? Cali is small so I take her in when ever she is sick just to be sure. Iwould put some water on your fingers and see if her will lick some off. I know it's hard if you can't afford th vet but better to pay some now then lose your baby and you investment so far. I would try some boiled hamburger and rice and maybe call the vet to see if they can take payment later. good luck and keep us posted. |
Sorry to hear your furbaby isn't feeling well. My little Georgia was vomiting a few days ago. I got nervous about dehydration so I gave her Nutrical then waited a bit and when she wouldn't drink any water I put some in a syringe (tiny amount-maybe a teaspoon) and basically forced it on her..she didn't like it but oh well! I waited an hour to make sure she kept the water down then repeated the process two more times before she went to bed. This way I knew she at least had 3 teaspoons of water in her. She's 16 weeks and about 2 1/2 lbs. Good Luck! |
There is nothing that can equal what a vet would be able to do for him, or find out... Keep in mind YOUR VET WILL WORK WITH YOU! If you have to make them payments, explain that to them. 90% of vets are more concerned about the care of the animal, than getting their money that second. 1. how long since he's pooped? Does he have any poo stuck to his butt hair that might be "clogging up the works"? What was the consistency of the last poop? Sometimes Yorkies will get a little obstruction, a hard poo with soft poo behind it that they can not get out without help, and it will make them sick as you described. 2. number one most important thing, keep him hydrated and keep up his sugar. The more liquid he takes in, the easier it will be to help him pass his poo if that is the issue. I reccomend pedialyte, syringe it into his mouth if he won't drink. At this point he'd need about 12 cc's in an hour. if he doesn't have a poo obstruction, then you've got a more serious problem I'm afraid you can't fix at home...you're going to have to bite the bullet and get him seen by his vet ASAP, and just explain the financial situation to him. If he won't work with you, go to the next vet who will. Once he gets dehydrated and sugar gets too low he will go into a ketatonic state where his body tells him he's not hungry, and he won't eat...then you're looking at hospitialization. good luck and keep us posted! |
So sorry to hear your baby is sick. He needs hydration STAT/ASAP! They will go down in a few hours without hydration. Do you keep NurtiCal or Nutri-stat? Mix 1: with water and start with 1-2 CC's or ML's. Check his hiney and give his butt a warm water scrub-lots of warm water on a wash cloth to make sure hiney is clean. They will not poop if there is hard poo stuck to their hineys and the hair. Now, dip a therm in vaseline and get a lot on the therm. Rub some around his anus and then do a rectal temp. If there is poo in the "vault" (inside his hiney) the stimulation of the therm and the lubrication of the vaseline, will help him go potty. Do not give antibiotics. Do try some acidophilus if you have it--I keep capsules for humans and sprinkle a little on their food. It is good bacteria in the bowel. My vet says that the "gut to stomach communication" tells them not to send anything down from the mouth so they stop eating and drinking. That made sense to me so I learned to get the poo going if they are constipated before they will eat... Again, I advise going to the vet with the baby...they will let you make payments if you need to..Take a stool spec to the vet for testing. If you use the vet regularly, they might do the sample without bringing the baby in first. They can find the problem sometimes and you can get the baby treated without paying the cost of an office visit. Has your baby been wormed? With Pyrantel? Strongid? I am NOT suggesting you give any meds til your vet has evaluated the baby. I will remember y'all in my prayers. Keep us posted.... |
He is doing much better. Rambo has been doing much better. That night I got home, I wanted him to drink some water. So I put some in the palm of hand till he was drinking out of his bowl. He also ate a little bit of his food. By the next day he was back up and running around. Being the little man that I love!! I did speak to the vet and she stated that since I live by a lake he could have at some dog poo (eww  ), but I should watch him for the next couple of days. Thanks for all the suggestions and help. |
Forgot to add to my post Forgot to add this.. I do have nutrical and i don't give it to him all the time, but was one thing he eat for that day. So I am putting that near his food so I can get in the habit of giving it to him once a day at least. |
