Baby Gene is sick:( dont know what else to do Hello all Baby started acting like she didnt feel real well late last night, she is like chilling, honking kinda of cough, and at one time last night her tongue was to the left side of her face..well i called the vet hosp and he said well what is she doing and i told him.. he said keep a eye on her and if she gets worse call back(this was 1:30 am) i held her and tried to make her better and she was still not feeling any better this am.. she didnt seem to get worse in the night stayed about the same...so i waited it out and took her to the vet hosp first this the Am. she was feeling pretty hot to me and they took her temp it was 103... she is crying as i type this holding her in my arms oh Lord i want her to be herself again ......but back to the vet hosp he said she looked pretty good but was breathing heavy so he did a chest exray..he came back and said she has a enlarged heart and their was fluid on her chest...he sent home some Lasix 1 time a day... but im still so worried about her chilling like and fever.. he said the fever would come down as she calms down... well she has calmed down just still crying and acting like she is chilling.... he never acted worried about her fever....do any of u give your little ones any thing for fever?? somethime has to give i cant stand to see her like this,,,,,,she weighs 7.3 lbs.. what can i do????? help?? she is not coughing now...just seems hot and feels like she is chilling thanks to all that respond to this post hugs Baby Gene and Momma:animal-pa |
Did the vet hospital say anything else? Like to cover her in a warm blanket and hold her? Also, is she eating and drinking fluids? I'd recommend taking her back to the hospital just to be safe if she isn't getting any better... Hope Baby Gene gets better soon! |
I believe it is safe to give them infant tylenol drops. but I would ask the vet first. It is not a good idea to cover anything or anyone that has a fever, it just makes the fever go higher. Learned that the hard way with one of my kids. I hope she gets back to normal soon. |
nope he didnt say anything else to do he said just let her get rest....but she is like chilling (i think) he didnt act worried about the fever he said he will come down once she calms down....should i give her anything for the fever?? she is drinking lots and peeing lots too.. |
thanks so much for responding..she is just now letting me put her down long enough to cook.. wonder what i should offer her?? |
Oh that poor baby - they didn't know why her fever is so high ? Could she have an infection ? You must be so worried and with the weekend coming - have an emergency number and location picked out just in case.....:( I don't want to scare you - I just remember my Chanel being sick on a weekend and it can be scary unless you have a place you know you can get to in a hurry if necessary. I would try to give her plenty of WATER...Syringe feed her if you have to - Pedialite for babies is good to give her also - all stores sell it....you don't want her dehydrating - did the vet say what to feed her ? Maybe ask them if you can give her a little boiled Chicken and Rice ? I would try that if she isn't eating - but ASK the vet first to double check Bless her heart - I hope she feels better soon !!! Good Luck |
aww I'm so sorry Baby isn't feeling too good. You have gotten a lot of good advice, so I'm not sure what to tell you. But good luck and keep us updated. Yall are in my prayers! Get well soon! |
Hi there, can you tell me how you baby is doing? I have one with an enlarged heart also. He is 6 months old, I think it is time for the doc to put him on the Lasix daily....He weighs almost 8 pounds. Can you tell me how much your baby weighs and what size dose the doc put your BabyGenes on? Thanks so much for any info you can send and I am so sorry for us both! Of course our little baby yorkies as well..........they are so innocent, why why why??? How is your baby doing at this point in treatment? Quote:

Hi there thanks so much for responding to my post, sorry to hear of your little furbaby has the same thing as Baby Gene:( she seems to be feeling a little better today she just seems sooooooo tired..unlike her..... she weighs 6pounds an either 7.50 >>oops i thought it was less then that on her weight until i just looked at her paper work.......she has been going to the pottie alot the past few days and hubby said this morning she looks like she has lost 10 pounds already..poor little one dont even weigh 10 pounds i told hubby(he said it was a word to use...lol) but she is on Lasix 12.5mg until we see the Doc this week on Fri..not sure if she will have to take this med all her life or just to get the fluid off..she still coughs or i should say honks so i hope he can tell me more on that i hate hearing her honk(cough) like she does it sounds aweful..he said at this time he was more worried about getting the fluid off around her heart. so maybe he can tell me more this week ,, she was panting so hard he said it was hard to tell....so we will see hope your little one gets along okay..just love our furbabies so much....like one of the kids...keep in touch and i will post on Fri how she is doing thanks again for asking hugs Baby Gene & Momma |
I hope Baby Gene is feeling much better, and also that MyYorkies2 is doing better. Prayers for them to get over this and be real healthy little yorkies. Ours has been very fussy about eating since she got so ill week ago last, over what we and the vet thinks was a bad batch of dry dog food. I now have chicken cooking since she didn't eat too good today, just couldn't go to bed without her eating :-) Does your vet have your yorkies on a certain diet now? Sending gentle hug to Baby Gene and MyYorkie2, and Baby Blessing sends each yorkie kisses. Patti and ~~Baby Blessing~~ |
Normally, when a child or adult has a fever ---you don't wrap them in a warm blanket. Instead, you should be cooling them down. I remember taking my son to the ER when he was one or two with a high fever and having seizures (tonsillitis)....anyway they put in in an ice bath to bring his temperature down, gave him medicine, and we were on our way back home in a couple of hours. I will never forget the doctor telling me that the worst thing many mothers do is put their babies to bed, cover them up, and try to keep them warm. Wrong..........he said.........just the opposite of what we should be doing. Just thought I'd mention this. I certainly would never resort to putting a Yorkie in an ice bath (I'd be seeing the vet long before I'd ever do this) -- but at the same time, I would keep him uncovered and try to prevent his becoming warmer. Dogs can take aspirin - this will often help bring a temperature down....but this wouldn't necessarily address the problem that is causing the temperature in the first place. Time to go to the vet......and after the visit, keep in close touch with him until your little pup is back to normal. Good Luck with your little pup -- Carol Jean |
I just found this thread, I'm soooo sorry that Baby Gene's not feeling well. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her! How is she today? |
I just saw this too! I hope and pray she's better and will be back to herself! How scary for you and her! Sending get well wishes to darling little Baby Gene!!! Keep us updated! |
How is she today? |
has the vet not said why the dogs got an enlarged heart? my sasha was coughing and panting so i took her to the vets and they said she had fluid in her lungs and an enlarged heart, she had meds but it didnt help and after 2 heart attacks i had to have her pts which broke my heart but she was 12 years old and had had a lot of problems in her life so i can understand why she had it but your 2 dogs are still young so i would ask the vet why your dogs have this. |
