10 week old puppy throwing up Hi, I am new to this message board and have some questions. We brought home a baby girl last night. She is very small. She ate and drank last night when we got home. I gave her exactly the same food the breeder did. Last night late, she threw up. This morning she threw up twice and some of it was liquid like water she drank last night. She will not eat and has not eaten today. I gave her a little pancake syrup. She is awake and alert. Pee-peed today outside. She won't take her vitamins which she loves. She is sleeping a lot today. I think this is just that she is in a new home. If you all have any other ideas or can give me some advice I would sure appreciate it. Thanks, Pat |
With one that young I would take her to the vet to be checked out. |
First - little puppies do sleep "most of the time." And - a little puppy may throw up occasionally for no good reason. Our little babies do the same thing - occasionally spit up all over us... Some of this might be due to just picking them up and handling them, etc. Or they may get their little tummys too full. Is your puppy still throwing up? Keep an eye on it. If it does continue, you may want to go to the vet, but if your pup seems happy, is going to the bathroom, and is playful, you might want to just watch it for a while longer. Carol Jean |
Thanks so much Carol. I did get some of her vitamins in her. She seems much better. We went outside and she went to the bathroom. She has been playing and was toying with her food. I think things will be okay. Pat |
I would go to the vet for a checkup she easily could have coccida or gardia. Even if she wasn't feeling bad you should always take a new puppy to the vet for a check up within 72 hours. I don't know if you have a contract with the breeder or not but in most cases this is a requirement if there is a problem down the road. |
I would also get yourself come Nutri-Cal and supplement 2-3 times a day to ensure she is getting all the nutrients. You must be very aware that Hypoglycemia can set in very quickly with a pup that small. They do sleep alot and the nice folks on this site reassured me of that. Our breeder required a Vet check within 72 hours of our picking her up. Take in a stool sample to make sure you did not bring home any parasites. We are enjoying a 13 week old. She is sound asleep and I write but I just want to pick her up and hug and play with her. Good luck with you new little one. Welcome to YT. Everyone on this site loves to see pictures of your new little furbaby! :smileyfla |
I have two five month old pups and they both have tummy issues where they rumble really loud. My bigger one keeps throwing up and nothing is coming out. It is almost as if he is dry heaving. I had to hand feed him this morning and he wouldn't even eat at all tonight. I gave him some nutri cal twice and some yogurt but its still rumbling.. Any help |

This thread is originally from 2006. You might start a thread of your own in the sick/injured forum. If this was my little one I would take it to the vet. |
