Wow Thank you ALL so very much for your support and concern for my Nikki. :D You have no idea how wonderful it is for me to have stumbled upon this forum and found such terrific people. First let me clear the air, after reading one of the messages that was placed in here I DID NOT come in here looking for a diagnosis. If I am correct this is a "Yorkie Talk Forum" and my assumption was that others in here are Yorkie lovers as I am and maybe, just maybe someone else might have gone through something similar that would help me get my Nikki the help she needed FROM A VET. As I believe I stated earlier my vet had NO diagnosis and didn't even give a final exam to my Nikki because she (Nikki) was so irriated and he didn't want to fight with her. I do believe he is a fine vet but maybe not the vet for me. Now on to more important things: My Nikki is doing A LOT better. She actually was able to start drinking water on her own again and is eating very well. She is being a little stubborn right now with listening to me but that's a Yorkie for you!! :p She continues to improve daily and the final diagnosis was stroke /or/ concussion. Unfortunately the syptoms are very similar and diagnosis with a CT Scan or MRI is my next option. Right now I'm going to give her a (short) vet break (providing she continues to improve). Believe it or not I do believe it was a concussion. I have two Yorkies Nikki is 2 years old and weighs 3 lbs and Nikki is 1 year old and weighs 12 lbs. Gia is regularly "body slamming" Nikki to get attention, food, water etc. and I'm having a terrible time breaking her of that. Now of course I am being a lot more aware of it and doing my best to break that habbit. I will keep you updated on treatments, test that we do and will let you know how my baby is doing. Thank you again for your support and concern. Nikki's Mom:aimeeyork |
Glad to hear she's doing better. I'm sure a MRI or CT scan is quite pricey so I hope you don't have to resort to that. Anyway, thanks for the update. |
Nikki's mom, Im so happy that Nikki is feeling better. Thank you for the update. :) |
Thank goodness she is improving. It is always such a worry when there is something wrong with our little sweethearts! I hope she continues to improve and please keep us updated! |
My 9 yr old Yorkie is sick Quote:
I took my yorkie 9yr to vet on Friday because his belly was swollen....they ran blood work and said he has low protein and low sugar and was dehydrated . When they ran a urine test it should some sugar but that I need to bring him for ultrasound on Monday. He has pink gums and is still acting normal just has a big belly he did weigh 3.5 pounds . They are telling me it looks like liver cancer . Has anyone had any experience with this problem? |

My two year old just recently started to gain weight. I'm not sure it's medically related...it seems that she's depressed. Every time she tries to play with a toy, her 1yr old brother steals it away. She just sort of looks at him and then goes to get a bite to eat. Every single time he takes something away from her. I believe in free-feeding and have committed to taking her for walks DAILY. The weather has just started to break and she wasn't able to go for a few months. She's scheduled for a checkup in June ad I will share my concerns with my vet at that time. |

Thank You to all who answer me about my little 9yr old yorkie. He is going to have a Bile Acid test tomorrow to confirm a liver problem. We shall see ..... but it does seem to indicate liver failure. It seems only yesterday he came to us and I am very grateful to the time he had with us. Only God knows when the angels will come but we will continue to to do all that is humanly possible to keep him comfortable and happy. Thank Goodness for all the Yorky lovers , Kat4tx |

Im so sorry your little guy is sick. I will pray that his Bile acid test comes back normal and that the vets can find out what is wrong and can treat him. Please keep us posted. |

I think Royal Canin has a higher fat content than most which may be linked to pancreatitis. |
Update Hi Everyone- Great News, my Nikki managed to jump up on the couch this past weekend to get on my lap for the first time in a month, it was VERY exciting. She is eating and drinking and back to her old self again. With one exception (which is sort of funny). With Nikki being so much smaller than Gia it seemed that she had given up on trying to be the dominant dog in the house because Gia was much stronger. NOW, since she was ill, I've noticed that she has (with complete confidence) begun to change the rules of the house. Gia tries to take food and toys from her but she is not having any of it. Gia is actually starting to back down from her "little BIG SISTER." Hurray for Nikki!!! Poor little thing needs to defend herself!!! :animal-pa TO LEXI's Mom: I had that problem with the girls as well but apparently a little time is what the older / smaller siblings need in order to take there place. I sure hope it's just a matter of adjustment for them. My girls are only 10 months apart and weigh 3.2 lbs and 11.6 lbs.:animal-pa TO KAT4tx: I will keep your little one in my prayers and I sure hope you and your baby are doing okay.:animal-pa |
