I talked to the vet again, This time the older vet was in . I told him all that went on with Minnie the last few days and It all seemed to start on Wed night after she ate some ham then was sick thursday then seemed better then friday she layed around a lot and started the circles , he told me that it didnt sound like she was doing circles to him but more or less walking the walls. She never touched the walls just walked around the outer room, He said maybe she was just feeling sick or had to poo, but she poops on her pad and she knows where that is. I know some thing was not right with her. and maybe it was because I feed her to much ham, I really dont know, I told him she might be preg a few weeks in.He told me I should keep a good eye on her the next 48 hours and if she started doing it again to get her right in, But even if she didnt He could still run some test and see. Right now shes acting like nothing was ever wrong with her. and Im so hoping it was just the ham and I hope that it has not harmed her puppies if she is preg. I do know she was very alert the whole time. so thats a good sign. What ever you all do do not feed your babies pork. |
I am so sorry that all of this is happening! I hope that she is ok and that everything will be ok in a few days! |
Ginger acts really strange whenever she has an upset stomach. I used to run her to the vet everytime, then started to recognize the signs. Sometimes she paces (kind of big circles), she definately has played the "hold me, NO, put me down!" game, and another is the "I'm going to go hide in the back of the closet and act very afraid"... really freaked me out the first few times! But, anytime this happens, she eventually throws up, or has diarrhea, and then gets better. Certainly, if the odd behavior returns or if she gets sick again, you should see the vet. But I've got proof (sleeping right here at my feet right now), that some dogs act very strange when their tummy aches! |
When I read your first post about Minnie's symptoms, I immediately thought, "liver shunt," but then did a search on dogs eating ham and I think, from what I read, that it was the ham that caused her symptoms and thankfully she got through that and is better now! I guess it is something to do with the high salt content in ham and it builds up in the liver and can't be processed, therefore affecting liver and kidneys. Don't beat yourself up for feeding her some ham. You sure didn't know and I'm sure most of us didn't know either. Now we have another item to add to the list of no-no's for our yorkies. Best wishes to you and Minnie! Maddie sends kisses! |
All my dogs have always had ham occasionally, and we have never had any problems. Sometimes when our pups or even we get sick -- we immediately blame whatever we ate or whatever preceded our sickness. And, more often than not, it wasn't that particular thing at all -- but something else we didn't think about or even know about. I can't help but doubt that it was the ham --- unless she ate way too much of it (and than this would be the problem - and not really what she ate). Anyway - it sounds like your puppy is a lot better. This is great news. Carol Jean |
