new-please help our dog, jake, has been making these gagging noises and throwing up what looks like yellow stomach acid for the last few days now. His appetite is still good and so is his activity level. Could anyone clue me in on what could be wrong with him. He's four years old. I'd appreciate any insight. thanks jake's grandma |
Hmmmm, He might have an upset tummy. Did you change his food? Make sure he's drinking water. A visit to his Vet might be a good idea. Oh Welcome to YT!!! Please kep us posted on how he's doing! :2hearts2: |
I would take him to the vet it could just be a little stomach upset from food or eating something he shouldn't have but I would check it out with my vet. |
Gastroesophageal Reflux Gastroesophageal reflux is similar to GERD (gastroesphogeal reflux disease) in humans and usually results in the vomiting of a small amount of yellow to green fluid early in the morning before the dog has breakfast. This fluid usually consists of stomach acid. Dogs do not continuously secrete stomach acid as humans do but tend to produce acid in anticipation of a meal. If there is no food in the stomach at the time the acid is present then irritation can result and vomiting can result. This can often be handled by giving a little bit of food or several dog treats at bedtime or early in the morning before feeding the dog. If it persists I often try Tagamet HB® to decrease stomach acid formation for several days. Rarely this condition can result in esophagitis or erosions in the esophagus. This condition is painful and loss of appetite, trouble swallowing, regurgitation and dehydration can result. Have you been feeding him later than usual? I've heard some with this problem giving 1/2 tablet of tums. If the problem persists or any other symptoms develop I would take him to a vet. |
Thank you Lacy's Mom for that insight. My boy has done it before and for a few mornings.... one of my girls did too and I gave tums and it cleared it right up. But I'm glad you explained it as you did..... very helpful! |
Lacy's Mom, my husband and i were discussing the same thing thinking he has some type of reflux. i guess we just didn't think that doggies could have that too. (a naive position to take). thank you so much for the insight I will try your suggestions and if that doesn't work will indeed be taking him to his vet. thank you to all who responded. jake's grandma |
upset When they throw up yellow foam..it is bile and means the stomach is empty too long and upset. Give him a late nigth snack and early morning feeding..that usually clears up the problem. |
Yorkies From what I can tell after having Lex these yorkies are just little four legged people...lol. Good luck. I hope jake feels better. |
just wanted to drop in and wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated on how he does! |
