Constant Scratching I have had Gypsy-Rose a week now,she is 10 weeks old and she is scratching a lot,my initial thought was fleas but she has been treated with front line and i have been over and over her with a flea comb and nothing! she does have a little bit of flaky skin though, could this be causing the itching? if so what can i do to soothe her? Before anyone suggests taking her to the vets it is late at night in England, but i will take her tomorrow.Any suggestions are most appreciated! |
What about....-?- Did you just put a new collar on her? Is she irritated by it? lol, it should be obvious if that's the issue! Otherwise w/o knowing you can still help her out by bathing her w/ a good quality oatmeal shampoo. If you look at the ingredients the oatmeal should be somewhere near the beginning of the list. |

mites Skin mites they are so small you rarely see them...worth a "look see" at the vets if it does not improve. One type are called "walking dandruff"..the skin is very dry and flaky..even if your pups does not have fleas, it could have been bitten by one and it started a itching reaction. Yorkies can be allergic to flea bites after they are rid of them. Good Luck |

Let us know how you got on at the vet. |
allergic reaction to flea bites has drove Ahia crazy(me too). The vet gave me a liquid mediation but it didn't help much. I didn't see any fleas either. soon after it hit full force. I had an awful time getting rid of them. unfortunately around here they are bad. one walk out side and I find another on her. This is the first year we have ever had a flea problem. I sweep the carpet a lot! and run things in the dryer lots also. Good luck and be sure and post what the vet says. |
what are you feeding her? it could be her food i know thats the problem my lil one had i was feeding her eukanuba... anything with corn in it... i would check the back of her food label and if corn is a main ingredient maybe try slowly changing it? it has really helped snickers... gl! |
I have bathed her with some oatmeal shampoo and have also started feeding her 'science plan' puppy meat, she has stopped scratching at the moment but she will be going to vets when the Easter Weekend is over, and i will post an update, thanks so much everyone for all the advice :D |
Many dogs have a problem with corn being part of their dog food. You might check the ingredients in your dog food and change to one that doesn't have corn. |
livingdustmops Just thought I'd mention that many dogs that have a reaction to corn isn't the corn itself. It's the pesticide and chemicals that the corn absorbs during growth and not lost in processing that dogs have a problem w/. Just an interesting thought. If you eve get the chance (depending on their allergic reaction(s)) try getting ahold of some organic corn...maybe even pop corn and let them have a taste and see if their allergies flair up. I don't know your dogs, but I'm willing to bet they'd be fine! Don't know if it's worth a risk though because like I said I don't know how badly they react to corn. If it's just itching and so on, give it a go! |
Hi all, just to let you know Gypsy-Rose started scratching again last night, really scratching her ears and she made them bleed.I took her to the emergency clinic and she has got Ear Mites! Ive got some drops that i have to put in her ears once a day,i then have to fold her ears in half and rub them for 10 minutes! Once i have finished rubbing all the brown gunk comes out and i have to wipe it away with a kleenex tissue.Poor little baby, she cries and yelps as the drops sting her! it breaks my heart having to do this to her,but i know its best for her.I have phoned the breeder where i got her from and she says Gypsy-Rose didnt have mites when she gave her to me! The vet said she has had them for a few weeks! im quite angry! |
mites I am happy you found out the problem...she should be fine in a week or so..be sure to wash her bedding, shampoo her aound the neck and ear area..mites can crawl out and attach to those areas..best wishes |
