Snail bait Hi guys - Little Ms Zoey got into some snail bait yesterday afternoon ( or so I think). About an hour later she started twitching and her back legs began pulling up when walking. She was shaking but not like tremors just uncontrollable twitching. She acted like she was drunk. I rushed her to the emergency vet and by the time we got there, she was sleeping and not twitching as bad. No fever, yet not completely herself, still a little woozy looking. We stayed there for a couple of hours to watch her to see if got worse. Luckily, she didn't. They said to take her home, watch her, and if she starts seizuring, bring her back and they would give her an IV. We got home and she wouldn't do much. Gave her some milk (dr's advice), gatorade, some bread, etc to neutralize her system. She was very jumpy and was barking at everything. I finally put her in her crate and she went to sleep. Woke this morning and seems fine. Is that strange or what? Have any of you had snail bait experience? She must have barely got a vapor of it or just a tiny bit. Scared me though! Would love to hear some of your experiences with the poisen. Zoey's mom |
Snails are not a problem here. I didn't even know they made snail bait. I'm glad she's doing well. That had to be pretty scary for you. |
I can certainly imagine that snail bait would be very dangerous for a little pup. I have used it in my yard in the past - and my two other dogs (older and larger) never paid any attention to it whatsoever... But - I'm glad you posted this because I do think a little Yorkie pup would get right in it. And, I'm sure it could seriously or even fatally affect them. Carol Jean |
Glad to hear little Zoey is doing okay. You might want to think about getting the snail stuff that is safe for pets and wildlife. There are two different kinds at Home Depot. That way you can still get rid of your snails (nasty little buggers) and little Zoey won't be hurt by it. It costs a little more, but worth the peace of mind and getting rid of those icky snails and slugs  :animal36 |
