bloating please help I have 2 yorkies and yesterday i bought another yorkie puppy.I noticed that the breeder has fed her a lot of scienceplan biscuits. Her tummy is really bloated and swollen but she is toileting fine, eating fine and playful. What should i do?I wouldreally appreciate any advice as my other 2 yorkies never had bloating, thanks |
Sounds like worms! Has the puppy been wormed? I worm my Puppies every 3 weeks. |
hi thanks for your reply, she was wormed 2 days ago with panicur,do you think i should take her to the vets? |
Have you taken her to the vet??? Anyone getting a new pup should take them to the vet within a couple of days! While YT is a caring community of yorkie owners, it is always important to remember that medical issues should be addressed with your vet. Congrats on your new pup and let us know how she continues to do! |
Yes I would, some medicine doesn't always kill all the worms. Bloating, barfing and runs are a sign. Since Yorkies are tiny and yours is new. A Vet check should be in the future, just because. |
Correction of Worming medicine. I worm all my puppies every 2 weeks with Strongid T. |
yes she has an appointment for a check up tomorrow,i do always take my puppies to the vets,i just didnt know wether or not to take her to the emergency clinic tonight. But following the advice i think will take her now.thanks |
Just to let you know I have come back from the vets with Gypsy-Rose, everything is fine, she is just bloated from the little biscuits! The vet said that when the biscuits meet with fluid in the tummy the biscuits expand! I have been advised to give her gripe water (a small amount). Im so pleased she is ok :) |

Glad to hear all is fine....... :p Aren't you glad your not quessing? I bet you feel so much better. |
Cookie Jeeze how many treats did the breeder give the pup? Anyhow good luck on your new darling. |
I am so glad she is ok! i wasn't sure if it would be worms as the breeder had wormed her since she was born.I will not be buying any more science plan Biscuits,She is going to be on a diet of meat now until she is a bit bigger then i will introduce biscuits again. So to everyone with puppies be careful of biscuits!!!!! |
it wasnt treats it was little dry food biscuits, called science plan they are like the beta and pedigree, not sure if you have them in america? The breeder only gave her 1 meal a day of them! The vet said lots of people have given their babies science plan and ended up with bloating! it is awful,im thinking about writing to the company and complaining! |
Bread products!!!!! - especially not completely or well baked - could cause problems. My mother put some covered dough out in the garage (a hundred years ago) to rise. A little neighborhood puppy came over and got into it and then went home. The neighbor noticed that her puppy was in distress, but had no clue what might be wrong. She did take it to the vet - but it was too late and the poor little puppy died. The dough had gotten into its warm little tummy and quickly doubled or tripled in size. I think this is a heartbreaking story. I know that even I feel - oh, so bloated - and so full - if I eat a lot of bread --- those "huge sandwiches," donuts, a lot of pizza, etc. So a lot of bread-type foods might not be the best thing for a little dog or pup. I'm sure though that a little bread won't hurt them at all. Carol Jean |
i would take her to the vet, hope she feels better soon Hugs |
