Luxating Patellas My Chloe is 5 months now and when I last took her into the vet he said she has a low degree of luxating patellas and that since she's so young it may tighten up...um...is that right? Help! Other than not allowing her to jump on and off things which she can't really do anyway being really small! 2.06 lbs what do I need to watch out for? Thanks guys! |
Yes, that is correct. Chloe was probably born with it which would make it a Level One. Yorkies and other toy/small breeds are prone to it (being born with it or caused by an accident). If caused by an accident it is an immediate problem. If born with it, it may never be a problem. You need to not let her jump as vet mentioned. Things to watch for is her favoring a leg, limping, holding it up excessively, or in general seeming to have pain in a back leg. Don't be fooled, those little ones will eventually jump too :) . Wishing you a healty lifetime with your puppy with NO problems. |
Simon has LP in both legs and has since he was a baby. He has never had any problems (he is 2.5 now). And yes, he is quite the jumper and runner and all the things he probably isn't supposed to do. A few times after a really long walk or a wild day of playing I will notice him limping SLIGHTLY! Other than that he has no problems at all :) Good luck to you and your baby |
No jumping off things and watch for favoring either olegs or walking funny. I know a grade 1 they can possibly grow out of. At least that is what I have been told. |
Thanks guys ya'll are great! I'll have to watch out for my scruffy little monster! Lol, aren't they just too cute! :D |
Mellie has them in both legs. The vet just keeps and eye on things. If she starts limping or becomes painful or a problem we will have to explore other options. For now is mostly watch the jumping which is rather impossible. |
