New, looking for advice on my girl Hi!! My girl's name is Tootsie and she'll be 8 in 2 weeks. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old, and she's had her share of health issues but is such a sweetheart. She has been on thyroxine for low thyroid since age 1, and at age 3 she began with seizures. After extensive testing (hypoglycemia, liver shunt, etc), the vet determined that the seizures were "idiopathic". She has been on pheno ever since, and luckily has been seizure-free for 2 years and 2 months. (I also switched her food out to Flint River Ranch 2 years ago and you can't tell me that doesn't count for something!!) :) Anyhoo, Tootsie went for her first dental a week ago today and came out without a problem, was eating like a horse as usual and was acting like her playful self. On Monday however, she stopped eating (and normally you can't keep her away from her food) and she vomited and peed all over the house while I was at work. I called the vet who told me to watch her until Tuesday, but on Tues she still hadn't improved. I took her in and they diagnosed her with a UTI, gave her an injection of antibiotics and pepsid for her belly. Later that night she ate some boiled chicken and rice for me, and has gradually been eating better since. LAst night she ate a little of her regular food for the first time. She still doesn't quite seem to be acting like herself, and she hasn't pooped since Tuesday. The constant peeing has gone away, but she still isn't interested in playing or getting into trouble like she normally does. She's on amoxicillin for another week for the UTI. Do you think this could have something to do with the lack of poop and lethargy?? Is there anything I can give her to make her poop? I really don't think she needs to go back to the vet b/c she is def. improving, I'm just really paranoid about her. :) |

Antibiotics can cause constipation in humans. You can probably give her an infant supository but I would check with the vet first. |
My vet used to say a few drops of olive oil in there food works wonders. |
I tried the olive oil and it worked like a charm!! Toostie is back to her normal self finally. Thanks for the advice! |
Yay! Glad Toostie's doing better! Don't you wish they could talk, and tell you specifically how they are feeling? Welcome to YT! |
