off balance yorkie
 
on March 11th we took our 3yr old Toy Yorkie to the vet cause he was very litargic and vomited once they diagnosed it a concution. When he was brought in they said that his blood sugar level was down and his temp was down too. but they ran all the tests and couldnt find anything wrong. Well today i came home and he was off balance and seemed like he wasnt focusing and all he wanted to was be held is there any advice you can give me that would maybe help him?

I am not sure what is wrong either, but you both are in my thoughts. Good luck with your baby, I hope he feels better soon. Welcome to YT too, it's an awesome site. Keep us updated

It sounds like your dog has hypoglycemia. The vet said the blood sugar was down did he give you any Nutrical to give the pup?

Well i just got a phone call from my girlfriend and she is at the Vet. She said that the Vet said that it might be nurilogical and to possibly get a CAT scan. When we took Kal-el (the Dog) to the vet on March 11 the doctor said that he has a soft spot on his head and said that he had a cuncusion but the vet that he is at now said that he doesnt have a soft spot. So we have gotten three different answers from three different vets and still nothing. They said that a Cat scan will run $1500 and the additional stay will be at leat another $1000 and she said that if there is a nurological issue that they couldnt fix it anyway. So I am lost. Does anyone have any advice?

You are in a very hard place right now and I pray that you cna get some answers and that they are in a price range that is affordable. Contact the vet and make a list of questions to ask her about her dogs-the parents, ancestors, etc. Check out the archives cause there are at least 2 conditions that cause similar symptoms. Make sure there is always NutriStat and when the dog acts the least bit off, give it the stuff. It is easier to treat hyperglycemia than hypoglycemia.. Try to get the pedigree from 5 gens from the breeder. Some lines are known to throw particular problems and you need to know that..
I am sorry but I do not know where you live. Is there a vet school in your area...they are wonderful...

It sounds to me like Hypoglycemia. Give your dog nutrical twice daily to keep blood sugar levels stable and make sure to ask your vet about hypoglycemia it sounds exactly like what your dog is experiencing.

Has your baby been checked for an inner ear infection? If not you may want to check that before investing $1,500.

Another thing to have check is her thyroid.

Do you have a veterinary neurologist in your area? Since a CAT scan is $1500 you shoud have an MRI instead. It will give a better idea of what is going on. In addition, you may also want to include a spinal tap to rule out any viral infections.

Has there been any seizures?

I've been going through similar symptoms with Jewel and have done a lot of research and picking various doctors brains about her.

it sure does...get nutrical, nutristat or nutri drops! also when you see him seem a bit off you can give him karo syrup also add some into his drinking water...

I don't mean to scare you..but I had a pit bull that died of cancer and one of the first things she did was she would walk and be off balance. If your yorkie starts vomiting and gets to where she can't get up and walk that easily..take her in then..my pit nikita was only two years old when she died of this. It's rare for dogs to die of cancer that young but not unheard of. You can ask them to take x-rays and the tumors will show up that way. I'm not saying that is what i think she has so don't panic. I hope she doesn't cause it is awful. I hope your baby is ok.
