I am not sure this dosage on both meds is correct. Can you rewrite it? Something just doesn't seem correct. I would hate for her to be getting too much Metacam. It may be correct, but I think we need to check it out. |

It's funny you should mention being drugged cause I am exhausted! She is far from that! Lol! My main problem now is keeping the confined little thing entertained! |
Meloxicam dosage is on this site: Meloxicam (Metacam) - Pet, Dog and Cat Medication and Prescription List | petMD If I were you I would call the vet tomorrow just to verify the dosage. It seems like a lot to me, but I could be wrong. I have never given it twice/day and am wondering if he meant that. |

LET ME REPHRASE Metacam give o.12ml ( one syringe)orally every 24 hours ( there are 6 to a bottle) then below that it says Metacam 1.5 mg/mL. (1.68mls) .....so that must be the total of all 6 I'm so sorry I screwed that up before. Then Torbugesic Syrup >5#. 0.67 mg/ml. (2 ea) Give 1.2mls orally every 12 hours Wonder what the 2 ea means....I was given one jar and one syringe Does that sound better? Me oh my ! Thank you for your concern....I really appreciate it.... Now how do ya keep the little darlings occupied confined? I'm exhausted! |
The Metacam syringes are all pre measured by them |

Do you have a stroller? I use mine when I have a pup recuperating. That way they can move from room to room with me. You just have to either keep it closed or make sure they are leashed in and cannot jump out. It gets easier! :) |

Thanks for the encouragement , now I still have to wonder if I want to switch pain meds and if it's wearing off too soon is why she's screaming at night....I give at 10:00... I'll see how tonight goes although she just screamed just before I gave it to her.... |
Will I need a cone for after she gets her surtures removed? She leaves the bandages alone but thinks he might lick when they're off |
You shouldn't need one once the sutures are out. |

Possible luxating patella My vet said my 8 month old Beiwer has a grade 3 in her left back leg and a grade 2 in her right back leg. I see no limping , carrying of the leg , lameness or problems. I wonder if the vets almost force it out and can make it worse. Most dogs I have seen with this will tend to walk on 3 legs or do a hop thing. She seems to use it normally, it does have a little bow in it. Thinking about getting another opinion, but would not tend to rush to surgery, as I have had dogs that had this and never want lame to 15 and 17 years. Pretty upset with the breeder if this is the case, it seems the dad is certified, and the mom had an accident that she is saying caused her patella to luxate. I found this out after the pup was diagnosed. I can' t imagine why she would breed this dog if she couldnt possibly know if this was genetic or and injury. |

No, vets, don't force these things and make them worse. They slide easily usually because there isn't a deep enough groove or there is some issue with the bones. Interesting the breeder says it was an accident...that is possible but if her puppies are coming up with LP, she may just be using that as an excuse. Who knows. If you don't know the lineage, perhaps you should find out about it if you really want to know. It isn't just the parents that should be looked at. |

I have recently learned this too...I went to 3 other vets for a second opinion and 2 out of 3 said surgery because this doesn't go away and it doesn't get "better". The other said since they are small house dogs and don't get a lot of activity he would let it go till she shows symptoms....which NOW that I know THIS information I TOTALLY disagree with! Why let their little bones , ligaments and cartilage wear down over time and probably cause more problems and complications not to mention increasing discomfort and pain. You have to feel they're knee caps pop when you lift them. Walking with knee caps popping in and out wears down the precious cartilage that feeds that joint lubricant. Thank goodness Zoey only had slight wear and will heal. She was graded a 3 and 4...and she was 3 in May.....I only wish my own vet was more adament about going to the ortho surgeon sooner. Plus please note you have youth on your side right now...all it took was one little mishap on Zoeys leg to send me running to the ortho.....and she was lucky it didn't tear a ligament since her legs were twisted from the kneecap displaced.....but a fierce and sudden gust of wind came thru with a front and blew the door along with its anchor onto Zoeys leg . Shoving her sideways and popping her off the door ledge. She suffered severe scrapes , her leg was sideways , and she couldn't stand on it for 24 hours.... Please do some research ....do a search on here for luxating patella.there is a lot of info...I am also glad I went with an ortho surgeon who does this all the time. Good luck to you.... |
