Shots & Ear infection Zoey went to the docter today for her last shot. She just turned 16 weeks and weighed in at 1 lb 11 oz. I told them to check ears she was scratching one was very dirty so they cleaned it out they had to hold her down and she was screcking. They found she had ear infection, they put drops in and held her down while she yelled. Then the shot came they held her down and couldnt find a place for the needle to go she screcked the whole time. Tonite we try to pick her up and she cries now like it hurts on her body, and won't let me put the drops in with our moving all over or crying again...I feel so bad but I have to get the drops in, what do I do ???? My husband is mad at vet he said she was fine before she went now she is in pain. I hope she is just sore because of the shot and not how they were holding her. |
I Hope So Too... I'm sorry your baby had a bad experience. :( Try to give her drops in the morning and have someone hold her for you. |
Dop you have someone who can hug her tightly to their chest? Then, You just hold the tip of the bottle close but not down in the ear, just in case she jerks. Rub the base of the ear to make sure the meds are dispersed then do the other ear. Do not make a big deal out of it and do not use your "Aw, you poor baby. Mommie is sorry to have to do this!" We all know the drill. Make it upbeat and give a weensy treat like a cheerio or such. Biggest thing is do not act upset or sorry... They are actors of the first class.. |
Thank you for your help....she whimppers so much when we hold like it hurts. Shes so small we feel like we'll hurt her. I will try that she needs the med in ear. T.Y |
My family all call it "mom's eechy-squeechy voice" and they used to make fun of me. Well, ha-ha, the laugh is on them. I hear them doing the same thing now. When I place a puppy and demonstrate the correcting disciplining voice I do my deep "you in big trouble voice" and then the high pitched one is so different that they learn the difference very quickly. The dogs-not the kids..LOL |
Ear infections Peanut had ear infections in both ears.It took two people to hold him.He is 12lbs. Try wrapping her in a towel first than put her close to your chest. Also make sure you wipe out the ear(s) with a dry cottonball first.Good Luck! |

My girl is the same way. After her third set of shots, she became the DRAMA Queen. If she doesn't like it, she starts the Drama Queen act. Your baby may very well be sore right now. Just be gentle but if she keeps up the drama I would bet it is just an act. All the vet has to do is get out the supplies and my girl starts the screeching. It is quite embarassing. |
I agree with the above comment about drama queens. Or drama king as the case may be. I looked in my little boys ears the other day to see if he needed any hair pulled and he acted like he was being murdered and I didn't pull a single hair. I would try wrapping her in a towel and have the person holding her cover her eyes for a second while you quickly put the drops in her ears. It you are quick about it and don't mess around you will be done before she even notices. Good luck. |
