oh no...he ate a pencil! Straszny ate half of a pencil. I searched it online and on here and found a little regarding the topic...should i be worried? well, actually, I am worried. The question is HOW worried should i be... I him a mixture of soft and dry food when i found the eaten pencil, hoping that it might help the wood "pass through". I will watch him carefully, but what do you guys think???? :( |

I would be more concerned about the lead. Why don't you call the closest emergency veterinary hospital and ask? They can tell you what to do or will put your mind at ease. I'd like to know what they tell you. Please update. Hope everything works out. |
take him to the emergancy vet quick. I'm sure the lead is toxic. I'm so sorry. |
Not to worry about the "lead" it is actually carbon like charcoal. I would worry about him writing nasty notes by sliding around on his hiney on the floor..LOL Seriously, unless there were large splinters all that will happen is that he will have colorful poop for a few days. The other worry might be the metal band that holds the eraser. One of my girls is smart enough to move my desk chair around and she has helped herself and the others to my wooden pencils. All have been fine. |
well, pencil are not made with real lead anymore, so the threat is more about the thin paint layer and the wood splinters.... or so the internet says. |
Pencil Its OK ,My Peanut did this in December. He will pass it sooner or later. For the next two days check his poop for the pencil. Peanut even ate the eraser.Im sure he will be OK. |
well, luckily it was a pencil without an eraser, so there was no metal or eraser. Just a rounded wooden end. thanks for the comments guys.... |
Pencils are made with graphite, but I'm not sure of the toxicity. |
Dogs sure do love pencils!!!! I have never had a dog that wouldn't chew a pencil to pieces (and even eat some of it). But - I have never had a problem or a sick pup because of it. So - I just try to keep my pencils where they can't get at them. Carol Jean |
From what I have heard, the wood will be okay until he does try to pass it. If can tear or scratch intestines on the way out. I would check with the vet. I think it depends more on how much he ate and how big the chunks are that he swallowed. Sorry, I hope he feels better and never feels sick!! |
well, he has been ok today! last night he did seem a little sick..he was panting a little. I dont think that he felt very well...but today, he has been doing fine. he is actually getting nuetered tomorrow, so i mentioned it to the vet... |
