Yorkie drooling and not acting himself
 
My Yorkie (Briar) is about 5 1/2 months old. Two days ago I noticed that he was drooling uncontrolably. He also wet his bed which is something he has never done before. He has also not been sleeping through the night. I am worried about him. Could this be the result of teething?

I agree, get him to the vet! When I first saw your thread, the first thing I thought was teething. Toto did that when her new teeth were coming in ... I couldn't keep the drool wiped away. But ... she never peed on anything! I pray there is nothing serious ... please keep us updated!

I hope that by this time you have had your baby checked by the vet. This sounds like more than teething....

this happened to Albert he was drooling in huge amounts and was becoming very drowsy i immediatley took him to our vet and he has gas from eating alot of food. but i was going to lose him. me and my husband both. Please get to the vet. I will be praying for you and your baby. keep us updated.

Thank you for all of your help. Briar just got back from the vet with a clean bill of health. We were told that he is experiencing severe discomfort in his mouth which is causing him to act out of character.

Glad to hear he is healthy. Poor baby so was it because he was teething?

Yes - the vet said that his teeth are not coming in gradually - it is happening all at once. I feel terrible for him, but extremely happy that he is healthy

Did the vet give you any meds for his pain? :( Poor, poor baby. When Seary was a puppy she always had pain after getting shots. She was a tiny girl so the vet said it would be okay to give her a quarter of a baby Tylenol. We would just crush it and mix it with a little milk, and it always made her feel much better!

Thanks for the update! So thankful it was just teething. We just gave Toto soft things to chew on, rubbed her gums with a little soft finger toothbrush and tried to keep the drool wiped off her chest! She especially loved the rubbing .... seemed to help her more than anything! ;)

Acetaminophen is contra-indicated in digs, so don't use it. Aspirin is the OTC drug of choice for mild pain....and I use OroJel for infants..just put some on a cotton-tipped applicator and rub it on the gums. They usually do not mind that at all. I use the max strength for so many things, even itching. Last night I used it in the ear of one of my puppies for itching.. Put it in and wait a coupla mins and clean it out. Scratching stopped.

I am so glad your puppy is okay. I thought it sounded like teething - and was hoping that her wetting was not even related - just an accident.

So nice to hear she is okay - and thanks for getting back to us with what was wrong.

PS: I have also read and heard that dogs shouldn't have Tylenol
(Acetaminophen) - so it's interesting that someone's vet prescribed it.
I know they can take aspirin.

Im glad to hear he is just teething, and I hope they gave the poor little guy something for the pain.
