I'm sorry to hear your puppy is sick. Hopefully it will be something easily treated and he'll be running and playing soon. We're sending prayers your way!! |
Thinking of you and your little one. |
Any update? I am praying for Scrappy to have a quick recovery. |
I was hoping for an update. I want to let you know that you and your loved ones are in my prayers. This is so sad! It does sound as if your breeder is caring and doing the right thing... |
Update On Scrappy The Vet called me around 4:00 to let me know that Scrappys test results came back positive for Parvo. He said Scrappy was still having the bloody diarhea, but he was not vomiting. He warned me that it will get worse before it gets better. I just don't know how much more he can take. The Vet did talk to the breeder before he called me to also update her on his condition. The breeder told the vet that whatever it costs he is to continue with treatment at her expense. She later called me to see how I was doing, and again informed me that she will pay for all Scrappys bills, but if I wasn't happy starting out with a sick puppy I could have one from her next litter. She also said if something happened and Scrappy didn't make it she would also replace him with one from her next litter. I'm so lucky to have such a caring breeder. Right now I just have these mental pictures of my little one so sick. Everytime the phone rings I pray it's not the vet with bad news. The breeder feels horrible about this. She gives her puppies the shots and it was exactly a week ago last Friday that she gave Scrappy his immunization for Parvo. Apparently parvo has a 7 to 10 day incubation period. She feels and the Vet said it was possible that the shot actually brought on the Parvo. She explained that like a flu shot, sometimes you can get the flu from the shot because these are like live viruses you inject into them???? I don't know if this makes sense anyone else ever hear this? Bad enough I'm worried about Scrappy, now I was worried about Raven because she is only 16 months old. I called my vet and told them everything that was happening with Scrappy do I need to be concerned for Raven because it's highly contagious. They said most likely shes already old enough and is current on all shots, but was due for one early March, to go ahead and bring her in today. Sorry for the long posts, and thank you for all your prayers I feel like we are going to really need them. I will post tommorrow after I call and see how she is doing. Kim |
I am so very sorry that you have a very sick baby. Hope he starts to improve soon...... What a stroke of luck to have such a caring concerned breeder. Please keep us updated on little Scrappy's progress. Sending hugs your way.... |
She explained that like a flu shot, sometimes you can get the flu from the shot because these are like live viruses you inject into them???? I don't know if this makes sense anyone else ever hear this? So sorry to hear about your baby! I don't know anything about parvo but I do know that the flu shot cannot give you the flu. It does take approx 2 weeks to build up immunity, so if you were already exposed to the flu the shot wouldn't do any good. Maybe that is the way with parvo. REgardless, I will keep you and your baby in my prayers. Renee |
I hope this turns out well for you, scrappy and Raven. U r in our prayers. |
Im so sorry to hear about the baby. I would clean every thing he played with. and the food dishes clean to a boil. I will keep them both in my prayers. |
Unfortunately, my vet has warned me about the dangers of vaccines actually CAUSING the very disease it was designed to prevent. In fact my vet said the only dogs he has ever known to get distemper were vaccinated against it! That is scary stuff. Most in here know that I am very cutious when it come to vaccines and I am a proponent of allowing as few as possible and doing titer blood tests instead of continuing to vaccinate a dog for thier entire lives. As for Raven, I would ask for a titer to determine his immunity to parvo before I would let the vet vaccinate him again. No need if he is already immune as the shot is hard on them. Did you check out Parvo Guard as I suggested earlier in the thread. It sounds like you caught it early and I am so sorry he is so sick :( but he pull through and you should give your breeder a rave review in the breeder section as it is nice to know that she is so compassionate. |
I just found this post, and I am so sorry to hear about your new puppy. You have an amazing breeder. Lots of prayers and good wishes coming your way, and please keep us updated on the progress. I am thinking very positive for all of you. Kate |
Sounds like you have one great breeder--you should consider yourself VERY lucky. I truly hope everything works out...this is a very difficult situation to have to deal with. Yes, I have heard of vaccinations causing the disease they're meant to protect against. I've never heard of it in dogs, but it makes sense. I sounds like (knock on wood) that it isn't going to affect your other baby, which is great news. Good luck and keep us updated on the recovery! :) |
Scrappy passed away this morning. I have posted in the R.I.P. Kim |
