Baby has scabby irritation down by her "you know what." 3 Attachment(s) Hey All, We went to the vet a little over a week ago and the vet noticed a little irritation (slightly scabby) down by her little "woo." It looks likes she keeps licking it, and the little scabs are from the rough areas on her tongue. Now, the vet told me not to worry about it b/c that's normal in pups, but now it looks like the scabs are getting darker. I put antibiotic ointment on last night (I checked my first aid book first to see if it was okay to put on Yorkies), and now it looks worse than before. Is it the calm before the storm? Could it actually look worse before it gets better? Did anyone else ever have to deal with this irritation? Should I go back to the vet? Could it be allergies? (I think she has them b/c she's always rubbing her eyes.) Well, thanks in advance. I added some pics for you to look at. I circled the red areas. Hope no one minds these types of pics. |
It could be allergies. Is she itching? If it is scabs will develop in other places. |
Without going through a whole expensive allergy test, is there something OTC that she can take? |

What are you feeding her. You just may need to change the food. You could also get an oatmeal shampoo. Also adding something with Omega Fatty Acids into her diet might help. I use Missing Link. I get it at Petsmart. |

Daisy had something that looked very much like that picture. Her vet said it was a staph infection and prescribed an antibiotic. It cleared up quickly. She was ALWAYS licking it. |

I just had my Pom to the vet last week for almost the same thing except hers was 10 times more extensive. It covered the whole area down their and stated to extend up her but. The vet said she had impacted anal glands and as rubbing herself on the carpet and it got infected. I started to put A & D ointment on it before going to the vet, but they gave me a pill antibiotic. The pill bothered her stomach so I have been using the A & D ointment and it is 60& better. Maya cannot lick herself down there because of her body shape (round) so I knew she couldn't lick it off. I would have the vet check it out to be sure but it looks like an irritation that may be a little infected.Good luck and let us know what happens. |

I wouldn't put anything on her if she can lick down there. My pom absolutely cannot reach down there so I knew it was safe. I would take her to the vet. |
My Yorkie had this on her two front legs right at the knee part in the front. I kept seeing her lick and chew at it and when I took a look it was red and scabby. I assumed it was just very dry skin from the cold weather and I put some anti itch and healing cream on it at night and then wraped her legs up in gauze and put her to bed. The next day I unwrapped her legs and the redness was gone. I baught some spray from petsmart that your suppose to put on irretated areas where they won't stop chewing because they hate the taste. In a few days her knees were all cleared up. Now I moisturize my girls tummy's, knees, and paws after baths and a few times a week so they don't dry out and I haven't seen anything like that on them since. |
1 Attachment(s) Okay, she still has this irritation. I took a better picture with my new camera. Anyone else's furbaby ever have this problem? Thanks again! |
That looks more like a rash then what my pom had. Hers was all solid red and scabby. |
