Thinking good thoughts. I am hoping the best for you and your little one. I have recently been through the liver shunt ordeal. My little Matise is 3 1/2 months post op from the Ameroid Constrictor surgery for his extrahepatic(outside the liver) shunt. If you have any questions at all, any at all don't hesitate to pm me and I will be happy to help you or talk with you to help anyway I can. My thoughts are with you and your little one and I am hoping the best for you both. |

I am so sorry to hear about your little Cricket. We also have just been through the whole liver shunt thing with Miko...Unlike Kara's Matise, Miko's liver shunt is more than likely intrahepatic(inside the liver), and he is on medications and a special diet in order to keep him healthy. They did go in for surgery, but unfortunately, they couldn't find it...The dr. didn't want to put him through anymore tests such as a liver biopsy because Miko had been through so much already, so they put him on medications and special food. Our vet said that with this, Miko should live a normal life!! And it's true...It's been Almost a yr since his surgery, and he's as healthy and energetic as can be! You would never know he even has a liver shunt! Just wanted to let you know that even if it's an intrahepatic shunt, there is still a possibility for Cricket to live a normal life with special food and medications. |
Just a quick update on Cricket. It's not liver shunt. The acid bile test was well within the normal range. It's within her brain and nervous system. I can't remember the medical term because I am so upset. I ask if there was anything that we could do or if he felt euthanisa was the only option and he said no. That there is a medication that he wants to try first to see if she can be medically treated for first. He also said we could go to another hospital and see a neurologist for a MRI but he suggested we try this medication first. At this point she isn't having seizures or hasn't lost her eyesight and he feels this option is worth a try. She is not in any pain and isn't suffering at this point so I am on my way to pick her up. I promise you that I will not let her suffer and will do whatever I can to get her over this. Pray really hard that this medication works. I will keep in touch on her progress. I owned a yorkie about 5 years ago and he died of old age. It has taken me this long to get another one and this heartbreak is just killing me once again. I have too much love to give not to be able to give my all to Cricket. Judy |
Cricket is so lucky to have such a special mom as you. I know this is trying for you now, but I pray that the medication will help her. Yorkie hugs and kisses to her from Jolene. I will keep you both in my prayers. |
Thanks for the update on sweet little Cricket. Sending more prayers and positive thoughts your way. |

Please know that you and Cricket are in my thoughts and prayers. I have had experience with one of my Yorkies who had a neurological problem. Here in the DC area we have an outstanding emergency hospital, "South Paws." I took Button over to South Paws to see a neurologist. She ran all kinds of tests and put Button on a steroid. We never did find out what the problem was, but Button is doing just great. Her symptoms were similar to Crickets, only she had no strength in her back legs and could not stand. Whatever the problem was, the medication worked. These little furbabies are fighters, and we all pray that Cricket will soon be her old self. Helen, Biscuit, Sissy, Bella and Kylie |
I am praying for Cricket and you. Medicine can do a lot for these babies now a days. |
Cricket is so lucky to have a mommy that cares so much for her. I will keep praying for her and I sure hope that this medicine works and that she will be fine.....Lots of prayers are going your way. Keep us posted on her progress. |
