She drank BLEACH! Last night, little Dolce was all curled up in her bed, sound asleep. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to work on an art project that I needed a lot of floor space for, since she's usually right where I am and would be in the way. Well, the project required me to have a little pyrex dish of bleach. Since she was totally passed out from playing earlier, I had it right next to me on the floor. Well, lo and behold, she jumped up out of bed and came running right over to see what I was doing. Before I could even do anything, she shoved her face right in the bowl of bleach and took a big lap of it. Of course I immediately freaked out and it didn't help that she started wheezing and running around all crazy. I flushed her mouth and throat out with a ton of water (so much that I made her puke), but she seemed to be just fine afterwards. WHAT A SCARE! Just goes to show you that these little ones can do the least expected things (who would think you could get your nose even NEAR bleach and still want to drink it?!?!) and we always have to be on guard. Has anyone else ever had any scares like this? |
I hope your fur baby is going to be ok. I found a little info on it... drinking bleach -- Milk of Magnesia will negate the acid. Give one teaspoon for every five pounds of pet. Absorb it with charcoal. Giving your pet activated charcoal, either in tablet form or as a powder mixed with water, will quickly absorb toxins from the stomach before they have a chance to be absorbed into the system. Even after giving charcoal, however, the original poison is still in the gut, so you'll want to see your vet right away. Did you contact your vet??? Just to make sure? This is scary and I hope everything will be ok. |
I hope she is ok. Did you take her to the vet to have her checked out? |
It was rather late at night, so the vet wasn't open. I spoke with Poison Control and they said if it was just one lap (which it was) and she'd already been flushed with water and had thrown up, that she should be fine. She was acting completely normal afterwards, so I'm guessing they were right. SCARY! |
Thats is so scary. Did your call your vet? I think you should just in case. I hope that she is ok, and didn't got to swallow any bleach. With this little guys we need to be very careful, is like having a toddler. It was good that you contact poison control. How is she doing today? |
I know in humans, bleach can burn and irritate your throat, stomache, etc. Isn't bleach pretty dangerous for humans....I can only imagine how dangerous it is for one of our little furbabies. I think I would talk to a vet. I hope she is doing okay! |
Ok...I just called the vet and they said that as long as she doesn't have any residual stomach problems (throwing up or diarrhea) and is acting normal, that she probably didn't actually ingest any or enough to do any harm. She's acting completely normal today and is eating fine, so I guess I don't need to be worried. Phew!!!! Thanks for all your concern! |
I'm so glad she's OK! How scary! I do also know if you ever ned to induce vommiting for something like that, hydrogen peroxide is very good to use on dogs. |
I'm glad you caught it with the first lap of it. sounds like it is going to be ok. good thing you were right there. they can be so darn quick and silent creaping up on us. glad everything is ok. |
