My yorkie also has vomitting only and we are in the process of finding out what the problem is. We are also thinking sensitive stomach, but after reading this, I'm very worried. So, you say that your little guy only had sporadic vomitting? How often? At night or during day? How did you finally have the shunt diagnosed? Utrasound? Thank you so much. Nicole |
Ls Please do not panic until there is a reason to panic...I wish you all the best results. |

Matise would have a vommiting episode about every other month and it would be in the day or the night. I had the Bile Acid Serum Test. It is a blood test that can detect liver abnormalities/shunts. Matise's results were high 60's pre-meal and 212 post meals so it was pretty certain he had a shunt. My vet advised against the ultrasound because they are costly and most times not conclusive in finding the shunt. So we scheduled him for surgery and they went in and found a shunt and put an ameroid constrictor on it. and we have been on the road to recovery since. I advise that you get a bile acid test for peice of mind to rule out a shunt. I also strongly recommend that you have anything shunt related-ie surgery done by a surgeon very experienced with shunts-it is not something that you want an inexperienced vet/surgeon to be doing. After you get the blood work then you will know where you stand. Hope this helps. Here is a link for more information on shunts. http://www.vet.utk.edu/clinical/sacs/shunt/faq.shtml Good luck to you. |
