Wow, that must of been really scary!!!! I just moved in to a new place and didnt even consider that being an issue. I guess I know what to ask next time when I find another place, just to be sure. There sound be some kind of law that Landlords should tell you ahead of time that the previous dogs had parvo. :thumbdown If it were me, I would see if the landlord would pay for the bleaching of the yards, JUST TO BE SURE. Then I would be off to the vet for the vaccination and to clean everything I could within the house. I just REALLY hope your Landlord isnt telling you what you wanted to hear. Sorry, I know youve just spent a bunch of time worrying over it, but its always a possibility. When I moved in, I heard that my nieghbors dog got poisoned by fertilizer (previous renters way over did it) by eating some of our grass. I kept a very watchful eye on her until I was sure alot of it had been rained away. Jeez, the things us doggie owners have to worry about now!! I swear, the next doggie I get will be trained in doors on pee pee pads. Goodluck and glad to hear that it sounds like its going to be okay! |

I agree 100% with mustangbee. I am just sorry to read about this, and feel your concern. My girlfriend just put her dog down, due to parvo. The vet said it is bad in my area right now. Just stepping on dog poo and bringing a small portion of it in on your shoe will contaminate your dog. Please let us know what the vet says, and I say "get the parvo shot" for your loved one. Good luck. Kate |
I can understand your concern. I would have the new vet do a titer test to determine your 12 year old's level of immunity to Parvo before you give him the vaccine as I would guess that at age 12 he is well protected for life. Parvo is most dangerous to puppies under 6 months and other immunocompromised dogs. Over vaccination and vaccinosis are concerns too and at his age if he is already protected there is not need to over do it on the vaccines. I would do whatever you can to rid the house of the virus which it sound like you are well on your way to accomplishing. You may also want to order Parvo Guard which I have heard is more effective than the treatment vets prescribe. |
