Rescue pup 1 Attachment(s) Hello! Saw this little girl in a shelter who was severely abused. She is under 8 months old and looks to ha e neurological problems. She falls over, is unbalanced and her head drops to where she will tumble forward. Poor girl was in a little kennel her whole life and doesnt even know how to play when she tries. This is heart breaking. We brought her home and are hoping to get her some medical help. Would anyone know about fund raising? She deserves to have a happy life full of love. I started a givesendgo for her. |
She also has luxating patella and had a seizure toniggt.. |
Oh, my. The poor little thing. It’s wonderful that you’re trying to help her, but I honestly think — given her issues — that you need the assistance of a good, experienced, non profit dog rescue. A non profit rescue can raise funds much more easily than an individual (because donations are tax deductible) and without the personal tax consequences an individual might face. Also, an experienced rescue also will have better access to skilled veterinary providers, often at a reduced cost. And I can tell you, from the brief information you’ve given us, that the diagnostics in this case are likely to be extensive and very, very costly. I’ve been in animal rescue for years, and just from your description, it sounds like this pup has some kind of brain disorder. But it could be infectious or congenital or cancerous or toxin-related or …. I fostered one small dog with similar neurological symptoms. It was heart rending. And, unfortunately, she was so emaciated by the time she was dumped at the shelter that she couldn’t withstand the diagnostics and eventually had to be euthanized. On necropsy, it was determined she had encephalitis, although the cause wasn’t determined. |

Ive thouggt about a rescue as well but if she needs to travel for diagnostics or neurology, we r willing to get her help even without donations. She needs love and to feel comforted. I'm kinda wondering if she has cerebellar hyperplasia. But I haven't seen that seizures go with it unless if it's more along the lines of cerebllar abiotrophy? Either way, she needs a neurologist for sure. |
It's wonderful you rescued this poor lil baby. You have taken on a big responsibility with diagnosing what her medical issue is then the treatment for it. I would suggest first finding out all that is wrong with her and the cost to make her well and normal. Then you can try a "Go Fund Me", you will have all the info. to put out to the public what she needs and the cost. She needs love and build up her confidence and trust in humans but, that will not cure her. Good luck, I will keep this little girl in my prayers. Did you name her yet. |

I’m very far from an expert, but encephalitis is also a strong possibility. Seizures are one of the symptoms, especially as the condition develops. I didn’t see the early symptoms in Lexi (my foster) but by the time I picked her up from the shelter, she couldn’t walk without circling, stumbling and eventually falling down. And she did have seizures. Here’s an article on encephalitis in dogs, if you want to read it. But obviously a vet needs to be involved asap. https://uk.mypetandi.com/health/ence...ses-treatment/ Good luck. I hope things work out better than they did with my foster. |

Any news on your rescued pup? |
Update! I'm on my phone so hopefully I can type everything in. Mri was done and found to be normal but the medial retropharyngeal lymph nodes are moderately enlarged. (Nothing more said about those) Spinal tap was done as well but we have to wait on those results. The neurologist riggt now is suspecting immune-mediated meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology. The spinal testing will hopefully tell us if not immune related but from an infectious disease. She came home with prednisone, antibiotic and keppra. |
We settled on a final name for her too... she was dumped at the shelter with name daisy. We said nope... new life new happiness and we thouggt fhe Japanese name sake.. meaning blossom and hope. I wasn't feeling it though and today it hit us!! Her name is now Smokey! After the little yorkie war hero!! A warrior and hero. Whqt better name? |
