Cough Willie is 8 and last week he started coughing. Kind of honking at times until he would cough up phlegm. I took him to the vet who examined him and said heart, and lungs sound good. He said his feels it is probably an allergen and gave him some meds to take. We left for our vacation on Friday of last week. The cough is off and on but definitely not better. It is dry now with no mucus. Mostly at night. I already have an appointment to take him back. But I was wondering if anyone has experienced this with their pup. I’m thinking: 1) kennel cough. He got his vaccine 4 days before the cough started. Maybe he caught something at the vets? … my other two dogs are fine. 2) collapsed trachea. Drinking and eating do not seem to aggravate him so I don’t know. Also would it come on that quickly. He had zero coughing before last week. 3) congestive heart failure. He does seem to have more issue when lying down. His energy level isn’t nearly what it was. But… would the cough just show up that quickly? If anyone has any experience similar to this please let me know. It feels like an eternity waiting for his appointment next week. |
Dog food Every so often my Daisy will do the hack and cough. If she does t stop she gets a little dose of Torbegesic which seems to stop it. |

Hope the appointment goes well. |
My Deuce had a severe reaction to a Bordatella nasal vaccine. He never had a reaction to it before but just all of a sudden. My little guy was so miserable coughing. It was like he had kennel cough. We had to give him a medication (I don't remember what it was) for a few weeks to help it to subside. That was 4 years ago. He still has occasional spasms from it. |

I am wondering if that’s what happened to Willie. He was fine, got vaccinated, and then has been coughing every since. We are now on a steroid and antibiotic. Hoping to actually sleep tonight. Last night we spent a lot of time breathing in shower steam and trying to give him honey. |
His cough is nearly gone since starting the antibiotic. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that it began within a few days of the vaccination, but I considering skipping that one next year for him. Maybe it’s because the vet used oral. But it makes me nervous. |
