Vet Appointment Wait Times and Ultrasound Costs Hi, Just wondering how long it takes to get a vet appointment with your vet? Is it normal that it takes a month to get an appointment? That's how long it takes me to get an appointment with my vet. Also how much have people paid for ultrasounds, surgeries, diagnosis? I paid $600 for an ultrasound which seems very expensive. Thanks. |
Welcome back My vet has 3 vets on her staff including herself, she her self is in very high demand, before the Pandemic it would take me 2 weeks to see her, but I could have seen one of the other vets sooner, now with the pandemic everything is curbside pick up, now it takes me a week to see only her. If your vet works alone I can understand a months wait which is really awful. I can't help you with your 2nd question, fortunately I haven't needed any of them. Others will chime in shortly. |
Price is really determined by your location more then anything. Here in Maryland things are crazy expensive. Covid has made wait times much longer here then they used to be. I have been going to my vet for about 13 years so they know we well if I have an emergency they get me in as quick as they can and the same goes for if it is an issue that can't wait a long time but other then that is is about a 2 week wait time. I wish I could remember how much Callie's ultrasound was at the internist but it was lumped in with a lot of other things so I can't seem to pull it out of my head right now. If your dog is having a pretty serious issue a month is way to long but it really depends on what is going on. |
My vet is actually pretty good about getting an appointment quickly. If it is an emergency I will see another vet at the office but usually wait for her to be available. She is also one of doctors that does the ultrasounds so I feel more comfortable. The other doctor that does them is also very accomplished. My vet only charges $250 for an ultrasound which I find very reasonable. |
I am in Toronto too. Ultrasound back ten or more years ago was$350 approx X-rays I only go for digital ones and by the way way interesting to view $400. This would be multiple X-rays. I remember seeing a patella aversion. Great to see what my hands sensed! I sing/croon to my dogs, it relaxes us both. I also dance a bit with them too. There is no limit when you put your imagination in gear:) |
I never wait that long for an appointment! Ultrasounds here in the Houston area are around $500. Surgeries .. depends on what for but I don't off hand know of any under $3,000 approximately. |
Wow, that seems really expensive! Did your yorkie need anesthesia? In Seattle ultrasounds are 200-$300. |
