Hypertension Issues I feel like Thumper is constantly sick. To make a long story short he has a really high Blood Pressure 220. He is on Enaparil and Amlodipine to try and lower it. It just keeps getting higher. Last month all the other blood work looked good but he just had a big flare up with pancrititis. (a whole other blog as I was trying to switch him to better food) so his blood work may be out of wack again. I am supposed to go back to the Vet on April 12 to retest his BP but I am waiting to hear back as the vet is only seeing emergency patients due to Covid-19. I am in a really hard hit area for the disease and in honesty if I do not have to leave my apartment I do not want to take the chance of going outside to the vet if it can wait. I do not know how long this will last. Some reports are stating until June the earliest. Is there anything I can do to help combat the BP besides meds. I feel like I live at the vet I have spent so much money there monitoring him with all his issues the past few months. I need a financial break from the vet if at all possible. I am doing ok financially but I can really use this money in other places right now. You would never know it as he is happy and playful on the outside. But he is my baby and I will do anything for him to keep him healthy. He will also be due for a dental probably in a couple months. I am going to see if we can skip it this year and maybe wait until next year due to finances. I will let the vet make that decision but if he needs it I will figure it out like I do everything else. I guess this is all over the place. I am just exhausted mentally and physically. This Covid-19 is really getting to me and I am self quarantined because of where I live (right in Elmhurst, Queens where the hospital hardest hit is a 10 minute walk from me). I only walk the dogs for 10 minutes a day around the block wearing gloves and a mask. They are restless and want to constantly play outside. I am lucky though I can work from home at the moment and my job is not doing layoffs yet. However, anything can happen at any moment. Thanks for letting me vent even if this is a yorkie forum. I am just trying to see if anyone else has had issues with Hypertension. I am not really sure what to look out for as he seems fine to me. |
High blood pressure is a big deal for Cushings and a lot of dogs with Cushings have it. I don’t want to scare you but lots of Cushings dogs with unmanaged high blood pressure have strokes. Sadly this is how it is with Cushings to they are very off and on sick and having issues. CBD oil is supposed to help lower blood pressure. Calm leisurely walks are supposed to help to. |

We are trying to always make the appt first thing in the morning so he does not get nervous waiting to be seen. in 2018 his BP was 170 and now it is 220 as of last month. |

I would ask the vet if maybe even over the phone if there’s anything that you could add like I think cinnamon or maybe turmeric might help people with bringing it down but like I said ask the vet and if it’s a good idea to give your dog but I don’t have no idea how much to give but it’s probably not a whole lot and you want to make sure nothing interferes with the medications he’s on. Saw your neighborhood on the news just now.... praying that you both stay safe and healthy. |
I'm so sorry you're going through this issue with high blood pressure. Things are tense enough with Covid-19 without having the worry with your little one. I wish I could give you some advice but I've never had to face this issue with either of my Yorkies. Praying for you. |
