Maya can’t step on her paw Hello all Maya is 11 years old and I just noticed that she doesn’t step well on her paw. I checked her leg, moved it around, back and forth and it didn’t bother her but when I pressed lightly on her paw( the black part) the right part only seemed to bother her. Anyone here experienced something similar? What can it be? Thanks |
If you mean by the toe area, if she jumped off something maybe she landed wrong and the front part of the paw went under, she could have gotten her paw caught on something and hurt it trying to pull the paw out. Two months ago my dog flew out onto the deck, there is a 3 foot high railing enclosed with lattice, he leaped at the lattice because he saw a squirrel in a tree, I saw how he hit that lattice, I saw his paw bent backwards, sure enough he started limping. He was able to jump on and off the bed so I knew it wasn't a ER visit. I kept him calm and leased for potty breaks. It took a month for him to lose the limp. |
She needs to have it checked out by a vet on Monday probably. If she is still putting some weight on it and acting normally then it could probably wait until Monday. If she’s not put any weight on it and not eating and stuff then you might want to take her into the emergency vet. |

She did run (slowly) after a squirrel before but the limping started a few hours after. I will watch it and if it doesn’t improve by tomorrow I will take her to the vet :( |
How is Maya doing today? |

She is doing much better! We went for a short walk and she seems almost 100%. I will let her rest again until tomorrow. They are so little and fragile that every time they are not ok, I feel stressed. Thanks ! |
I would give her a full week off that paw. My boy is 12 Lbs, when he slammed into the deck lattice and started limping, but was able to jump on and off the bed and sofa, like I said, I knew it was not an ER visit. The next day I wouldn't let him jump off the bed, I put him down, he had just a slight limp. In the afternoon I didn't see him on the sofa but saw him when he jumped up, paw up limping. I put cushions on everything he jumps on and closed the bedroom door so he cannot jump down from anything. I did this for a week, then removed the cushions to see how his leg was. The first jump off there was a slight limp, the cushions went back on for 3 weeks. He is fine now but I won't let him fly out of the back door and jump at that lattice. The longer you let your pup rest that paw the better. |

Dogs / yorkies do not need to be taught to jump, that comes naturally lol. You are very lucky she isn't a jumper. If you take her on long walks for now, I would make them shorter just so she keeps her full weight off that paw. A week should be fine. Please keep us updated on her progress. |

Yay! Sometimes mine would step on something and it would bruise one of their pads. Ouch for a few days, but then all good. Another time an acorn shell fit right over one toe pad. I looked at that foot at least 5 times before I saw what it was. Popped it off the pad and pup was fine. Weird. Lol! |
