Prayers for Thumper Please keep Thumper in your thoughts. I came home today from work and Thumper is very lethargic refusing to eat or drink water. Thumper loves his food so him not eating is a sign he doesn't feel well. I was able to give him 20 ml of water via syringe this evening. I have an appt with his vet tomorrow evening. The reason I didn't take him to the emergency is that his primary vet knows him and his chronic illnesses and I believe can better assess him properly. If I wasn't able to get into them tomorrow then I would have taken him to the ER. If he starts vomiting or not able to walk this evening than off we go as well. He was fine this morning and until about 11 am that I am aware of. I have a new foster puppy that seems to love to chew wires and chewed through the camera wire this afternoon so I don't know what happened from that time until I got home this evening. I am very worried about him. All he is doing is laying on my bed and not wanting to move. I hope it is nothing serious and but until I have answers I will be a nervous wreck. He just had his 6 month check up two weeks ago and the blood work numbers weren't amazing but also were not awful. We were going to repeat them at the end of the month. Sometimes I wish he could talk to tell me what is bothering him |
Prayers for Thumper and you. I think I’d be heading to the ER sooner rather than later. Hope he’s feeling better soon. |
Prayers going out to Thumper and to you. I agree with kjc, if it was my dog that was lethargic refusing to eat or drink I would be off to ER with him. I do realize you want his primary vet who has his history to see him but in a case like this, better safe the sorry. |
I understand about you wanting to wait for his vet but with that kind of lethargy I think it would be best not to wait. In my Cushings group they say if they are acting like that to not give the Cushings medicine so you might want to look into that. Please keep us updated. |
Prayers for you both. I know it is hard waiting. |
Healing thoughts are being sent your way! |
Small Update Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Thumper is doing a little better he drank and ate today. I moved my foster to the crate away from Thumper in hopes maybe he was overwhelmed by him. He did have a small amount of diarrhea this morning but no vomit and only pooped once. He has drank water throughout the day so leading to all signs of improvement. When I get home from work I will see how he greets me as that is usually an indicator as to how he feels. I will also try taking him on a small walk to see how he feels. If I find him not right we will go to the vet tonight. If not I already have an appointment on Monday with Bella for dental so will take him as well in at that time. Right now its a wait and see. I have some home remedies to help with his stomach (i.e. pumpkin and probiotics) I am on top of it all and have no issue getting him to the ER if needed. I also have friends that can stop by during the day if needed. I didn't have them today as he has been resting and I don't want him to be distracted. He has not peed since this morning and that is unusual but it may be that he was dehydrated yesterday or just needing to rest. I will see what happens tonight. Will keep you all updated. I am hoping he was either overwhelmed with the puppy foster (even though I have had him for a week) or he might have ate something wrong and it is going through his system. |

This morning he has happy to take it. Last night he wanted nothing to do with his pills. |

I am also at the vet now. He is definitely dehydrated and the vet is doing an X-ray of the chest and the stomach as they want to make sure he did not get into anything. I’ll know more once I get the results. Will keep everyone updated. |

How is he doing? |
Update so far Quote:
Today he had diarrhea again and refused to drink water. I only fed him his morning meal and will wait to feed him until tomorrow. I tried all types of drink for him (water, no salt diluted chicken broth, and pedialite) nothing he will sniff and walk away. I did find a way for him to drink and will post about it separately. He seems to have bursts of energy but than gets lethargic and shakes constantly. (The shaking is normal as that is his way of getting attention) I decided to go for the ultrasound on Monday to see if there is anything wrong internally. As long as there is no blood or vomit I am not going to rush him to the ER. I just hate when they are sick. I am home all weekend so will give him lots of hugs and kisses. With food he eats at least one meal a day. For the weekend it will only be chicken and rice with some pumpkin which he loves. Will update later. Thank you all for your kind thoughts. |
