Spayed and tumor removal
 

My new Chloe was spayed and had a mammary tumor removed yesterday. We brought her home last night. She’s on 2 pain meds and an antibiotic. Showing no interest in food so I force fed her a bit so I could give her the meds. She’s a bit more alert this morning, but I’m still worried for her. The next few days will be rough. Healing thoughts and Prayers greatly appreciated.

Poor Chloe. Give her lots of hugs and kisses over the next few days. Am sure she'll be fine but healing takes time. Soon she'll be back to her old self. Prayers for both of you.

Thank you. I stayed up with her all night on the couch. She usually sleeps in bed with us under the covers but I didn’t trust doing that in her condition. My pups have always slept on top of the covers but she will dig into your back until she finds a way under. She also jumps a lot and I’m not used to having a dog that jumps and of course with her being spayed we have to put a stop to that so I’m more nervous than usual. She’s keeping me on my toes.

Poor little Chloe, being an older gal spay and mammary tumor removal at same time may take a bit longer for her to heal and get back to her jumping lil self. All my girls were spayed at 6 month old, the next day they were ready to romp and wrestle with the pack. That was a challenge lol.

Callie did not eat after her spay. Penny was a whole different beast lol. She ate after the first day even with sedatives I could not keep her calm. They were both much younger though at 8/9 months. Healing and getting back on her feet is probably going to be a bit slower due to age. I bought Penny special food for after her spay. Hope she heals fast!

Thanks. She kept me busy yesterday, LOL. she jumped off the chair twice yesterday well off once and on once and jumped off once today and we had to add one of those collar things to keep her from licking her incision and she did start eating so she’s doing a lot better. This is her more normal self: under the blankets.:D

LOL, age is not affecting her I see, she should not be jumping off anything. Put pillows on sofa or flip up the sofa cushions preventing her from jumping on it, put something on this chair she's jumping on and off of, anything to prevent the jumping. Did your vet tell you how long to keep her calm until they remove the stitches. Back in 1997 was the last time I had a baby spayed, my vet said no jumping and wild activity for 2 weeks because of breaking the stitches, I don't know if that's still the time frame.

Some members used baby's onesie to prevent the licking of stitches.
She sure is a lil cutie buried under her blankie lol.

I think Chloe is a good eater considering most Yorkies aren’t or can be picky. She did start eating on her own after her second dose of pain meds so maybe she was too uncomfortable to eat. When we go outside she’s walking around like nothing’s wrong so I guess it’s all good. Here’s a pic of her incision today.

Oh no! You don’t understand! This dog has special Spidey Senses, and this Diva does not do floors, unless it’s to investigate or track down and attack/kill invaders. When her work is done, it’s back in the chair or on couch until the next poor unsuspecting UNSUB dares venture too close.

If I put anything on the furniture, she’ll just climb around until she finds a spot to lay down. She’s almost given me a heart attack jumping from the back of one chair to another (this before her surgery). Since her surgery, I’ve been sitting with her to try to prevent her jumping. The e collar did slow her down quite a bit though. Funny, I ordered some onesies this morning. They were delivered tonight and fit great. She looks so much more comfortable.

I need to find some big safety or carpet pins. I’ll attach 5 of them to the back of the couch so I can run her leash through them and attach the other end to her harness, giving her just enough leeway to get up and turn around, but not enough to reach the edge of the cushion. Or invest in a larger carrier. I don’t even know if she’s kennel trained or not. Maybe put a sign on the door too, lol. Open to any suggestions....

LOl, sounds like you do have your hands full with lil Miss Diva lol. It's amazing how fast they they recover from surgery. It's a battle trying to keep them calm.

I’m sorry I never answered your questions. She doesn’t have stitches, They glued her back together. It is 14 days to keep her calm. I apologize for trying to be humorous because I know it’s very serious and they can do a lot of damage and may require another surgery to repair that damage.

I deal with my stress by joking which is totally inappropriate.

She finally drank yesterday for the first time since her surgery. I have been adding water to her food and gave her some water by syringe often each day. The morning of her surgery she got up and headed straight to the water bowl and started drinking. I yelled “No” as she was supposed to be fasting prior to having the surgery. She’s such a good girl. I was thinking she remembered me stopping her from drinking and was afraid to go to the water bowl. I was going to call the vet, I was getting very worried. But all is good now.

So glad to hear that she is drinking again, and seems to be recovering well!

No apology necessary, we all deal with stress in different ways. Seems gluing pups after surgery is the way to go these days, better for the pups as well. Glad to here Chloe is drinking water, sounds like she is recovering very nicely.

Yay!!!! The tumor was benign.

And the bad news: it can reoccur, but if I see any bumps she’ll need to get them removed ASAP.

Thanks everyone! it’s like a huge weight lifted off my chest when the vet told me the good news. I didn’t realize how worried I had been. I’m just so relieved and very happy. Finally some good news!
