anyones pup on viagra? Hi all, My pup is 14 yrs old, has been diagnosed with collapsing trachea, chronic bronchitis and mild pulmonary hypertension. He coughs A LOT! Brought him to a cardiologist and he was diagnosed with early stages of pulmonary hypertension and they felt no treatment was needed as of yet. The vet and cardiologist felt that the majority of his coughing was due to the bronchitis. They suggested tussigon, and prednisone but were willing to start him on viagra if I chose to. I opted to see if the prednisone would help first. He has been on the prednisone and tussigon for almost a week now and I have seen little improvment. Thinking of starting him on viagra. Any thoughts or insight is appreciated! |
Have you researched using viagra for dog ailments. If not you should, this is a new one for me. Hopefully other members can share what they may know. |
I have never heard of that. Have tried hydrocodone? |
It sounds like your vets are spot on. Viagra is used treat pulmonary hypertension in humans - among other things :D. |

But. What would the 'side affects' be? I am not being funny about THAT side affect. I really am asking..... many times, Drs. and Vets kill with what they do not tell us about drugs they push. |
Hope you find the right treatment soon. |
I found this which might be some useful https://www.cvcavets.com/drug-handouts/sildenafil/ |
YES, viagra/sildenifil has been used for a long time for pulmonary hypertension and does work!! We had foster who was on it for years. He lived way beyond expectations/predictions. The med was like a miracle for him. It used to be fairly pricey and may still be; but you can call around to different pharmacies for pricing. |

Marna, you are right about many doctors being pull pushers - :thumbdown If the dog is neutered then it won't be a problem. |

Not sure that is true.....I was not talking about just THAT side affect. I am honestly wondering what all this could do to a little dogs body. |

I will say that it was NOT expected that he would live that long. Pulmonary hypertension is deadly ALL meds have side effects and we, as consumers, should always know what they are and report to our doctors or vets if we have concerns. |
