Pancreatitis Duchess has been experiencing stomach issues since Thursday. I took her to the vet after several days of vomiting. I can tell she was having stomach pains because she was walking with an arch back. The vet thinks it's pancreatitis. The only symptoms she is displaying are a decreased appetite (but still good), vomiting (at least once a day), eating grass to induce vomiting (she never eats grass) and stomach pain. For now she doesn't appear to have any other symptoms. She's not lethargic although she is definitely not as energetic as she normally is. She did wake me up last night as she was experience some pain but she eventually settle back down and went to sleep. She ordered several blood test and of course a fecal sample. She gave us some meds for vomiting and nausea until we get the results of her bloodwork back. Thankfully I have pet insurance so I don't have to worry too much about cost. That is what insurance is for right? Please keep Duchess in your thoughts. |
Pancreatitis can be extremely painful and they didn’t give you any pain meds? Since you know she was in pain I would request pain meds ASAP. |
She will be in my thoughts. |
Pancreatitis sucks! We feel you. Did they give any Sub-Q fluids? Did they do a SpecCPL test for pancreatitis specifically? Cerenia and Metronidazole seem to be the go to meds, hopefully they help. Make sure she stays on low fat food for the rest of her life and be very careful with extra snacks and treats. |
Ultra sound the pancreas is common |

Duchess was just a the vet's in April for her yearly wellness visit and she was in excellent health. |
They still haven't given you the results of the bloodwork? Usually they can do in house and find out that day. |
Yes and her bloodwork, stools, urine all came back as normal. In fact she is doing much better now. She's not showing any signs of pain and she has stop vomiting. Maybe she ate something I didn't see or she was just feeling a little under the weather but she is back to her old self. She's eating and pooping normally, she's back to chasing the kitty and barking at the neighbors dogs. I will just keep an eye on her. If there any are recurring symptoms than obviously I will do more extensive testing like ultrasounds or xrays. |
So glad to hear that she is doing so well! :) |
