Presley’s having eye problems, help please! Hi all, it’s been awhile since I posted last, but I need some advice. Presley, age 4 1/2, is having some eye problems. This week his left eye became swollen and the white part of his eye became red, I took him to the vet on Thursday, the vet did an exam, a strip test, gave him a shot of antibiotics, and tobramycin ophthalmic solution that I put in his eyes twice a day. I was hoping by now we would be much better, but we are only marginally better. I asked the vet if he thought it could be allergies and he said he doubted it because it’s only one eye. The swelling is not as bad but it is still really red and he squints it some. I’m a worry wart and just wondered if maybe I’m asking for too much too soon, should I take him back Monday, should I maybe try some benedryl to rule out allergies just in case, have any of you had any experience??? We have a new Yorkie puppy (Bama) I will post pics in another post to introduce, Bama is full of himself and they play rough and I’ve noticed Bama will snip at Presley when he wants his toy, maybe possible that Bama snipped him by accident?? |
Poor Presley! Max went through eye issues, one time it was caused by Teddy clawing him like a cat. Did the vet find a scratch or corneal ulcer? Keep up with the meds and re-checks with the doctor -- and take Presley out in cool morning and evening air. Warm and hot air really aggravated Max's problems. The cool air helped his eye heal. |
Did the vet do the test for a scratch? It’s possible the puppy scratched him. When a dog is on any medicine it’s best to check with the vet first before giving anything even Benadryl. I hope it gets better. Congrats on the new baby too. |
Yes he said that there was no scratches at all, that it was really red and angry. He did the strip test and it came back fine. Thank you the new baby is a MESS lol, but oh so cute, I got him from the same breeder as Presley, she is amazing! How are your boys doing?? |

The strip test was for dry eye. Since a corneal ulcer (if it was ... did he put green stuff in his eye and look at it under a blacklight?) was also ruled out, I would just continue the meds and see the vet for a follow up. As for allergies...I doubt it if it is just one eye. Hopefully it will improve soon! |

His eye seems maybe a little better today, still really red but all the swelling is gone, and not squinting near as much. He has some goop, I’ve used a warm cloth to try to loosen it a little, I’m scared to mess with it very much, I don’t want to make it worse. I will be following up with the vet, I think I was wishful thinking that it would heal quicker than it is. Thank you so much for answering! |

My little boy recently had eye issues as well. I was worried because the meds didn’t seem to be working as quickly as I had hoped. However, I noticed that he was rubbing his eye when he thought I wasn’t watching. I ended up having to put a cone on for 3 days but the very first day of wearing the cone, the medicine had a much greater impact on the look of his eye. After the third day he was able to leave his eye alone, even without the cone on. |

Yeah, I really hated to put the cone on him but I knew if he kept messing with it then it wasn’t going to heal quickly. |
So pleased to report that Presley seems to have turned the corner, his eye this morning looks MUCH better, not near as red, still a little pink but not as angry looking by far! We are going to keep doing the eye drops like vet says and check back in with doc later this week! Thank you all for your insight & help!! |
Awesome! |

Teddy has had minor eye problems, redness and green matter production. I was always able to cure his problems in 24 - 48 hours by doing the warm compresses to the inside corner of the eye. The boys are doing well. Still wild despite being 10 years old. Yorkies.:D |
