Looking for advice - Sasha chewing her feet About 2 months ago Sasha started chewing at her front feet. We took her to the vet right away and they gave her vetadryl. I gave it to her twice a day for 30 days but it did not seem to help. When her hair was longer (we just had them groomed) you could see that the hair on the bottom half of her front 2 legs was shorter because of her chewing. The skin does not look dry or flaky but she keeps chewing. Someone said to try children's benadryl. Has anyone done this? If so what dosage did you use? She is only 5 pounds so I don't want her walking around in a stupor high on benedryl. Is there a shampoo that would help? We use Yorkie Shine when we give her a bath. I am not sure what the groomer uses. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you |
Sounds like allergies to me and Benadryl really won’t work well. You will need to do an allergy medicine like cytopoint or apoquel. I would try the cytopoint it has had amazing results and is not filtered through the liver. |
Are these prescriptions ? |
I agree with Lovetodeam, licking, chewing paws usually is a sign of allergies, giving Benadryl has no affects if it's allergy related. Cody has allergies, I bathe him with Douxo Calm shampoo purchased at chewy. You have to leave it on for 10 minutes, I am telling you, this shampoo is a miracle worker. Cody gets Cytopoint shots every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how much he is scratching. Apoquel is a pill given daily. Both Cytopoint and Apoquel can only be gotten through your vet. Several months ago Cody was scratching so much he was losing hair, I bathed him with the Douxo Clam shampoo which I had just gotten, the scratching stopped right after bathing him, the next day I took him in for his Cytopoint shot, no scratching, licking or chewing paws since March. |

Cytopoint is Amazing! I have found it lasts for 2 months.. Sometimes longer. You only Give it when there are symptoms |
