Sneezing fits Wasn’t sure where was the best place to post this. I was up all night with Callie. I would say 20 to 30 minutes after going to bed she started this sneezing fit then it would stop for a few minutes and start again. It was so much I worried about her nose getting so irritated that it might bleed. No drainage or anything. I took a wash cloth and clean her face with it in the hopes of getting off something that was irritating her and her nose. No luck. I finally gave her Benadryl as a last ditch effort and after about 30 minutes it seemed to work and at 4am she went to sleep. I on the other hand could not sleep after that. Anyway she had one sneeze today and has just been really tired and laying around. Has this happened to anyone else? Online it says lots of sneezing is not normal for dogs so I’m concerned. Do I just kinda wait it out and if she does it again or sounds congested in her nose then take her in? I worry non stop about her now that she is getting close to 12. |
Do you have humidifier air in your house. Cali gets the sneezes when the air gets too dry sometimes. When she sleep under a humidifier she does much better. Might be something to think about. Hope it gets better for her. |
Maybe she had some dirt, bit of carpet fiber or a plant or pollen-type irritant from the yard/environment stuck in one of her nasal sinuses and it finally dissolved or passed after irritating that area all night. I've read somewhere about some type of grass or plant with a grain-type top that can come loose and catch in the animal's fur or eyes, mouth or nose. Some of those things have like backward prongs(forget what they're called) on them to keep them attached to what they adhere to forever. Anyway, after a night of no sleep and all that sneezing it likely has her stressed and tired out. If she is alert, has normal reactions to food, sound, etc., has no temp, her nasal cavity isn't tender over it, respirations are normal, she's not shaking/shivering/isolating herself, is eating, drinking, peeing/pooping okay, whatever it was apparently passed. And knowing you, if she acts at all differently in any way or stays tired-acting, you'll vet her. Keep us informed, if you would. And hugs to little Callie! |

So no more sneezing but she does still have a bit of a runny nose. After I had time to think about it she had some sneezing and a runny nose a few years ago and it was allergies and only lasted a few days so hoping for the same with this. |
Glad you figured it out. Sounds like the Benadryl was just the ticket. Hope Callie feeling better now. |

Glad to hear that you have figured it out. Benedryl can be a lifesaver during allergy season, both for me AND the furbabies! |
