4yr Possible Tracheal Collapse??? I started to notice that my 4yr old gets a heaving and labored breathing cough when I get home from work and he sees my. I think he gets overly excited and then he starts to gasp for air and cough. I'm concerned bc I started to read online and keep getting the symptoms of tracheal collapse and that it is a progressive disease. Does anyone have a dog that has this and what have the Vets said about it. What is the treatment like. I know I may be getting ahead of myself but am just looking for info |
It could also be reverse sneezing. My youngest girl does it when she gets excited. My oldest has collapsing trachea and it has not gotten worse over the years it has stayed the same. The same went for my moms rescue. In a lot of dogs it will just stay the same. It can be managed with medicine. You probably need to talk to your vet about it. |

There are several threads on YorkieTalk about collapsing trachea. Recent posts are found in a thread started in 2013, "Got a Collapsing Trachea problem? News[.]" Lynn ("MZLynnC") lost Luke, a precious three year old, to trachea collapse this week. Her posts appear on page two and three of the referenced thread. User gggrammy, also Lynn, has a 13-year old, Twinkles, who is just beginning treatment. I hope the posts on that thread are helpful to you as you work through this with your vet. Prayers your way.--KatysMom |

I am Luke's Mom. We lost him last week to CT he was just 3 years old. What I would suggest is to try to tape record on your phone the sound or do a video of him when you come home. That will give the vet something to see/hear. Surgery is usually determined by the vet after a series of other things and several types of x-rays. What I do encourage is if he is diag with CT - to do a scope to get a base line of the area - to work with. From what we went thru the x-rays gave some good info - we had the basic x-ray, then we had the Fluoroscopy- which showed some of the areas better than the basic x-ray. and finally we had the VMC Bronochoscopy - which showed the true damage of the CT. The Bronochoscopy showed an area where the scope could not go past, but with the air in the trachea the x-rays gave the true story. If your dog has CT and is getting worst, do the Bronochoscopy to know actually what is going on. This is a wealth of info in making correct decisions for your dog and much better than regular x-rays. I first started with a natural trachea cough soother syrup, that I got on Amazon that helped right at first. it was by Paw Healer, and it went on from there. Good Luck with your baby. |
