Poor Callie is sick again So Callie threw up really early Wednesday morning and I gave her pepcid and she was keeping water down but refused to eat. She then ate some chicken and rice that night. She still is not really thrilled to eat something she always normally is. She has now switched to bad diarrhea like thinks she is passing gas but pooing diarrhea. I am really hoping something just irritated her IBD and she can get medicine and everything will be ok. I'm not sure she is dehydrated but vet appointment at 3:40pm. She also is broken out again and might have a possible skin infection. Poor Callie, I just feel so bad for her. I'm really hopping the vet can get her feeling better today or at least on the path to feeling better. |
I hope your vet can provide some answers for you and get Callie on the road to health again. Please keep us updated. |
Waiting for an update on Callie, and hope she feels better soon! |
Not a really great update. She has another skin infection and they gave an antibiotic injection and are hopping that it will help the diarrhea if it doesn’t we call back in 24 hours for a special GI antibiotic. Here is the not so great part Callie has gone from 18 pounds to 15.8 pounds in only a few months. The vet is concerned. She says she’s not loosing the weight in like a normal needed way but that it seems like she’s loosing muscle mass. When she goes back in two weeks if the weigh is still going down they want to do X-rays and possibly a sonogram looking for inflamed organs and possible tumors. I don’t know what I’m going to do if she has cancer. She is my heart and soul. |
Taylor, so many hugs. Vibes that Callie is okay. |

Oh no :(! Poor Callie...sending love and hugs! So this weight loss - it can't be attributed to the Cushings Tx, is that right? Was she overweight prior to the Dx of Cushings? When dogs have Cushings that's either undiagnosed or it's not yet titrated to control the cortisol -- they do lose muscle mass. You often see it most (or, notice it most) in the hind legs bc suddenly, for example, they may not be able to jump up again on something they previously could. When is your next ACTH again...? |
I so sorry to hear this news. I’ve got you both in my thoughts and hope things start looking up for you guys soon . |

Thank you everyone. I feel pretty good that she does have cancer I think we have inside known this for a little while and I’m positive Penny knows too. I’m sure her weight will not get better and will even stay the same and or continue to drop by her two week check up and that we will be doing the X-rays and sonograms. This is so hard for me. |

I am so sorry to hear about poor Callie! I will hold you in my thoughts. |
Callie Oh my, Taylor, I cannot believe the your sweet baby Callie may have cancer. We all here know how much you love her and feel she is partially ours as we have heard so much about her from your posts. But hopefully further tests may show it is not cancer, but something that can be cured and managed. If not, I hear you that you could not put her through more misery. Sincere healing thoughts and prayers for a more optimistic outcome. Hugs to you and Callie. |
Callie vomited twice this morning. I am waiting to see what’s going on. She is very happy and alert and everything. If it continues we will be off to the vet and maybe pushing the X-rays and sonograms earlier then the 9th. I’m not sure we might not have a stomach bug going through the pups. Both Joey and Penny have had soft poo and messy bums and due to Callie’s IBD it might complicate a stomach bug. Now hopeing the puppy doesn’t get soft poo. |
I certainly wish you and Callie well. Icy, one of my collies, had Cushings. She never vomited, ate all her food, but she did lose weight. She was never overweight to start, but she became thin. Her energy did go down, too. Of course, she had herding titles, so she had been extremely active. After a few years living with Cushings, she was content to chase an occasional deer who dared enter our yard. She lived to be 15, a good age for a collie. Hope you are just seeing a normal progression of a condition. Gew |
Any update on the tests ? Cancer a true diagnosis or is it something else? |

Sending strong healthy vibes and hope that things improve for your dear Callie, and my Cali and I sends love and hugs! |
I’m tense Callie’s appointment is Monday and I’m scared. Skin infection is no better. The diarrhea is gone for now but she does have bad gas. She is eating a lot but not a change in weight that I can tell. You can feel her spine and ribs yet her tummy is still big. I so am not ready for this to be the beginning of the end. |
I know how hard it is, and the waiting is THE HARDEST, but try to hold onto good thoughts this weekend. Worry and stress is conveyed to our little ones, and will only make things worse. Many others on this site will be thinking of you and Callie...You are an incredibly strong Mommy to your little ones, and you will be able to handle whatever comes your way, so try your best to spend this weekend having positive, loving time with Callie! (((HUGS))) |
Her appointment is at 3:20 tomorrow. I will try to update y’all as soon as I can but if it is really bad I may need some time to deal and processes. |
Thoughts and prayers will be coming your way. I truly understand the angst of waiting and not knowing. Gew |
I was reading about Calle and want to say I will be praying for her. I hope everything turns out well. I’m going thru a mystery illness with mine. Tomorrow I get a referral to see specialist my lil Jupiter has definitely got something going on just don’t know what yet. I realize that we have to keep our mental and physical strength up so that we can be here for our babies. |

I’m so nervous I’m sick to my stomach and I have Ollie’s puppy class this morning. |

Alright update. She has gained a few ounces we are back at 16 pounds from the 15.8 we had been at. X-rays showed no obvious signs of cancer but her liver is enlarged which my vet says is due to her Cushings. If her weight starts going back down and she has another bout of diarrhea it is suggested that we get referred to an internist for a sonogram to take a better look. |
Are you on the k9 Cushings group? My Icy had Cushings and I found the group to be invaluable: supportive and knowledgeable. Glad cancer is no longer suspected. Gew |
So glad that there were no obvious indications of cancer! |
