Bells I hope sweet Bells gets better. I will pray for her. |
Thanks for the prayers. The test results came from the University of Tennessee. Androstenedione was 0.60 the baseline is 0.05-0.57 The Cortisol, Estradiol, Progesterone, 17OH Progesterone and Testosterone were fine. The remarks were as follows: There were a series of 3 check boxes: 1. Within Normal Limits 2. Indcate prescence of adrenal hypofunction 3. Indicate presence of increased adrenal activity. The third one had a ? in the box and looked like this: [?] indicate presence of increased adrenal activity. (marginal (early state HAC?) Then it read exactly like this with parenthesis as well: "Overall values are within reference range. Deviations, (but in one column only, less serious) from reference range are marginal non-significant ( early state HAC?) Treatment options are for your consideration. Some vet my consider tentively, items 2-4 combined. Retest within 6-8 months is a diagnostic alternative, if symptomatic. " 2-4 were melatonin, melatonin implants and ligans. So, I'm wondering...could the pancreatitis attack have cause the slightly raised level and she doesn't have Cushings? |

We'll probably need those with more experience to chime in. In the mean time, what date did the vet take the test (that was then sent to U of Tenn)? I looked back at the vet papers; she was discharged May 15, 2018. |
The top of the paper says RX 5/23/18 then at the test it says, date completed 5/21/18. Is this important? |
It is SO beyond excellent that you and your Vet had the bloods sent to U of Tenn - just awesome choice, diagnostically!!! You can only get this kind of rich info about the adrenals and steroids from there. So, it looks like - if anything - it's possible she is in early stages of Cushings. The only way to really confirm is to recheck in 6mths like they said - via ACTH or LDDS, or just send bloods to U of Tenn again for richer diagnostics. ** Did they say which steroid or intermediate steroid was increased, if any...? It may not be a bad idea to give the melatonin and lignans. The melatonin would be NON-sustained release...just get the 3mg regular release kind - and you give twice a day. |
Bells androstenedione was 0.60--so above the baseline of 0.05-0.57. I'm not knowledgable enough to know if the elevation of that particular reading could be attributed to Bells recent pancreatitis. |

Thanks, everyone! I will also head to that site. I'm really hoping she doesn't have Cushings. She already has Luxating Patella, IVDD and the 2 episodes of Pancreatitis- enough to worry about- and I'm a worrier of epic proportions. |

We had dogs, mixed breeds and small, who lived into their very late teens, 2 poodles who lasted 18 & 20 years - not vaccinated, ate crap food ( Gaines Burgers, for example) I think we are killing these dogs and making them sick- breeding, vaccinations, heart worm meds, tick and flea meds, dog parks, etc. |
Gaines-Burgers I remember Gaines-Burgers! LOL. Wikipedia reports the company that owns the trademark is planning a 2018 revival. |

Also, for decades, we over-vaccinated pets incessantly - just unbelievable the extent to which that was done and the resistance to change it (which is *still* happening, shockingly!!). There are several correlation studies/papers out there which trace the staggering increase in dental issues, allergies, and certain diseases etc to the time when we started over-vaccinating pets. Over-vaccination would affect the immune system...the extent to which we can't really even know bc you'd have to be able to distinguish btwn what was genetic or would be there anyway in a certain dog etcetera. |
Bells Pancreatic #s went from 887 to 39 in 30 days! We took her to the vet 30 days from her hospitalization. They did the blood test and just called today...down from 887 to 39 in 30 days? Even the doctor said he had to eat his words because he told us we'd never see normal numbers for her again. I told him that after her first bout of Pancreatitis a couple of years ago... she also went down and was tested at 127 after 30 days. Still having feeding and pill issues...but doing the best I can. Thanks for all the help. |
