Liver Shunt Surgery - Help Hi I have just joined the forum and I am probably posting in the wrong place. My baby is 7months old and was diagnosed with a liver shunt last Tuesday and I took him straight to a specialist on the same day via his vet referral. He has remained in the hospital and the surgery is scheduled for Monday or Tuesday depending on emergencies over the weekend. I really am freaking out, have not slept longer that 2 or 3 hrs since. He has had some stones flushed out of his bladder on Thursday because he could not pass urine and then the hospital said it is better to remain with them until surgery so he is stable. I get updates twice a day and I call them all the time. He is now able to have a pee and eating and according to them not causing them at concerns. I have not seen him since last Tuesday and I am counting of others to tell me he is ok. Has anyone had liver surgery on their teacup Yorkshire and can give me some advise? Thank you very much |
I just responded to your private message with information about liver shunts. :) Your post is in General which is ok, but there is a lot of activity here so it might get lost. I will message the admin and mods to see if it can be moved to the Sick and Injured forum. Welcome to YT! :) |
They should let you visit him. He is probably in the best place and your doing the right thing. I understand the worry but hopefully everything will go great. |
I had given you the following link in message...sharing here in case it might help another: http://vetmed.illinois.edu/wp-conten...mic-Shunts.pdf Here is another that you may find helpful. It is a little less technical than the first one. https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc2/Do...D-Brochure.pdf |
My Teddy Bear had bladder stones, too. They did the surgery to remove the bladder stones and repaired the liver shunt at the same time. He did really well...that was in 2013 and he is fine now! :) He was older when he had it done. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ver-shunt.html |
Thank you very much I will post an update tomorrow when surgery is completed. I want to say I cannot wait for the next week to pass but also scared just in case I loose him. Once again thank you |
Prayers that all goes well tomorrow and prayers for you....I know how hard it is to have such a sick pup. He is lucky to be so loved. :) |
Hope the surgery was done today and went well! |
