Diarrhea & Imodium-Need Help JB is dealing with diarrhea since his visit last week to the vet. Stress related or he caught something. Eating/drinking fine and started chicken & rice 2 days ago. He is not going all the time and has stayed on his regular potty schedule. It is that when he goes it is soft. Very active, happy and not acting lethargic or sick. The vet told me to also start him on 1/2 tsp Imodium 2x a day. I gave him his first dose yesterday afternoon and then again before we went to bed last night. He went potty 1 hour after the first afternoon does and it was again diarrhea but since then, he has not gone at all. I stopped the Imodium in case he might be constipated. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do? Even though he has not gone potty (#2) for almost 22 hrs did I do the right thing in stopping the Imodium until I see his next bowel movement? |
You can't really go super wrong here, honestly. If it's been 22 hrs - then it's fine to stop the Immodium and just wait and see what happens now. Are you feeding just 2x a day? One thing you may want to try, if you are able -- is to split meals into 4-6 little meals to stimulate the GI system more often. |

When my girls have minor tummy issues I add a small amount of pumpkin to their diet. It seems to help, but I haven't found scientific research to back up the benefits of feeding pumpkin. I use organic canned 100% pumpkin when I don't have time to prepare fresh, but NEVER pumpkin pie mix. I have used yogert as well - unsweetened plain Greek. You are right about the pumpkin - from what I understand the fiber helps with both diarrhea and constipation. |
