How is the little guy doing? |
I sure hope he starts eating soon, and he gets to feeling better as well. Been worried about him.. Hope to get more news soon. I'll say a little prayer. |
Just got back from lunch and Bimmer had pottied in his cage. It looked to be the meal he ate last night, so I have to get him eating something real soon. At lunch, he wasn't interested in chicken and rice, his normal dog food, Cesar's, nothing... I did go ahead and give him the Pepto and some more Nutrical, along with more syringe-fed sugar water. His eyes are wide open and he just seems tired. Hopefully he'll rest some more and be ready to eat a big meal when I get home. The vet thinks the antibiotic shouldn't be hurtung his tummy as much by later tonight. I'll keep you posted... Keep the ideas coming... I'm down to try anything at this point. |
I don't have anything to add, but want to let you know we all care about Bimmer, and you. I hope you are able to get some rest, and please let us know how he is doing. Did the vet take his temperature? |
I'll keep praying til the next update! Hopefully he'll be eating better by then... |
5:21 PM I left work early because I couldn't stand it any more. Tried to feed him when I got home and he wasn't interested. As my wife was making a grill cheese sandwich, his head popped up and he was licking his lips! I remembered someone on here reccomending putting a little cheese in his dog food to trick him into eating it, so that's what I did. To my suprise, he just ate about half of his normal sitting!!! Way to go Bimmer! I didn't push more food in front of him because he walked away from the original plate. He moaned a little bit, so I'm assuming his stomach is still a little messed up and I don't want to continue that problem. I'll try cheese and more dog food in a couple of hours after his tummy settles. I'm so proud of this little guy. I just know he's going to make it thanks to you all here! He's not out of the woods yet, but that cheesy Cesar's was certainly a step in the right direction and, honestly, I need ANY sign right now. Wish him luck! |
8:20 PM Bimmer was laying in my arms staring at me while I was singing. Off handedly, I said out loud to him "Please tell me you're going to be alright." I kid you not, he climbed out of his blanket and nestled under my chin. After a few minutes of that, he started moving around so I figured he had to go pottie. I took him to his pad in the kitchen floor and he walked off of it towards his eating area! I immediately rushed to get some more cheesy Cesar's (We call it "McDonald's" now :) ) out of the microwave and Bimmer went to town! He ate an entire sitting of food and then walked over to the couch where mommie was laying. He's there now taking another nap and we couldn't be happier. We haven't seen this much appetite or movement in FOUR days COMBINED!!! Things might be turning for the better, folks! I'll keep you updated as I have gotten plenty of private messages from you wanting to know how our little guy is getting along. We very much appreciate your thoughts! Who knows, my next update may well be about the little guy wanting to play again... Big ole smile on my face while writing this one!!! |
10:00 PM Bimmer woke up and went pottie. What was completely liquid diareah yesterday, is now semi-soft stool. He wasn't up for anymore Cesar's at the moment, but I suspect that his full belly might have something to do with that. :D Instead, he opted for four CC's of sugar water which he lapped up with his VERY pink tongue that was almost grey yesterday. He's now playing in mommie's hair and I couldn't be happier. What a difference a day makes! |
thats wonderful news!!! I'm so glad to hear he is feeling better!! I will keep praying for a complete recovery!!!! |
Great to hear Bimmer that you are getting better :wavey: :happyboun Great news to hear Bimmer is doing so much better, so glad the cheese idea worked for him, it has always been a friend to us in need when we had the problem with ours. We are looking forward to hearing that you are all well real soon Bimmer, our prayers for a quick :getwellso Big  to you Bimmer from Jack and myself. |
Hot dog! This is fantastic news. I hope each hour he keeps getting better. Thanks for keeping up posted. |
1:15 PM This morning I think I woke Bimmer up from a nice slumber because he was groggier than usual. I gave him his sugar water, nutrical, and vitamin drops and stuck some food in his cage, but he wasn't interested. "No big deal" I thought, "as long as he eats lunch I'll be happy." I returned home for lunch praying that he'd eaten, but he was asleep again and his food was untouched. I gave him all the same treatments as in the morning and then gave him a small piece of cheese to see if he was interested in it at all. He sprung to life and tried to jump out of my arms, so I hurriedly fixed him an extra large batch of cheesy Cesar's while he went nuts. Needless to say, he cleaned his plate... even licked it dry! He's asleep now and I'm back at work feeling MUCH better about leaving him alone right now. Slowly but surely, I think we're making progress. He still sleeps more than I care for him to, but as long as he eats and keeps his sugar up, he can do whatever he wants until he feels back to his old self. EDIT: I almost forgot! He went pottie this morning and his stool is much harder than last night. |
8:15 PM Bimmer still hasn't eaten since lunch. He's still VERY lethargic, but he's not nearly as out of it as he was a couple days ago. When I got home I put him on the floor and forced him to walk to me from points all over the room. My reasoning on this is that if he lays around in our arms all day, his muscles will atrophy and we'll have a whole other set of problems to address. I feel he needs to get some exercise even if he isn't feeling that great. Does this sound good? Also, he started feeling bad on Thursday of last week and hit his low point Sunday night. That's four days to bottom out. Does that mean I'm expecting too much if I want to see him close to his old self in two days? What about four or eight? How long should I wait for him to bounce back before I assume he's not getting better? We're on day two right now and he's awake in my arms just being lethargic. He moves his head quite often and repositions himself by tucking his head into the fetal position. It looks very comfortable. So, what say you wise folks of YT? Where do you think we're at right now and how far until he'll be back at around, say... 90%? I'd say we were at 30% on Sunday night and we're at about 65% now in two days. By my math, that means he should be bouncing around like normal by the weekend. What if he isn't? What would you do with a 10oz. baby Yorkie at 10 weeks old? Also, someone asked earlier what his temp was. I can tell you that on Sunday (his low point), his temperature was 101.46 degrees. |
Please take Bimmer to a different vet soon I just read your post and you say Bimmer is only 10 ounces and is only 10 weeks of age? I definately would take him to a new vet ASAP I would not hesitate on doing that. I didn't know he is only 10 weeks old and oh my goodness he is so tiny, I would have told you this before had I known his age and weight. Sure hope he is going to pull out of this. I know you and your wife are giving him your best but to me in my opinion he really needs to to be evaluated by a different Vet. Please do get another Vet to check him out. He's been seen by three different vets and our normal vet seems to be the only one who can properly diagnose anything. He correctly figured that the antibiotic the other vet gave Bimmer was upsetting his stomach. He also couldn't understand why they gave him an antibiotic to begin with. I trust my regular vet FAR more than the others. That having been said, Bimmer is so small because he is a "teacup". I know that isn't popular around here with some people, but that's the reason he's so small. This morning I woke him up and brought him to my bed to lay with me for half an hour before I had to get ready for work. This has become a tradition. :) He was almost his normal self as far as alertness goes, but he still didn't want to eat anything. I'm sure he'll have a big lunch like yesterday. Right now he's just been slow to go back to eating all day long which requires special attention paid to maintaining his sugar level throughout the day until I get him back on his regular schedule. Hey, this morning was a little better than last, so that's improvement! |

Yeah, we originally bought him to be small, but it's funny because that doesn't matter a lick to me anymore. I'd take him a big as a horse and love him all the same. I just want him to get better and live a long happy life. The "teacup" thing was the original plan, but now he's just Bimmer. I quickly stopped caring about how small he was and focused more on how healthy he is. |
Hmmmm.... back form lunch and Bimmer ate maybe two bites of his food. He's back to looking real sleepy and groggy. Now, when I set him on the ground to get a little exercise, he shakes his head like dogs do when it's wet. Not his whole body, just his head... like he's shaking out the cobwebs. He did this at least five times during lunch. I'm going to go back hom in a couple hours and check in on him. Anyone have any clues why he's shaking his head? |
I seem to remember reading a post about the head shaking thing being a symptom of something (besides ear issues). Bumping for anyone to answer.... By the way, I'm following your baby's progress and hoping for the best! |
Wow, just read the whole thread... You have certainly been through a LOT with your Bimmer boy this past week. :( I am so sorry your pup does not seem to be thriving at the moment. Sounds to me like you are doing the best you can. I will think about Bimmer and you and your wife, and hope Bimmer has a complete and positive turnaround in his health. Good luck! By the way, you are doing a great job keeping everyone up to date. We all care about the welfare of the little ones, and worry ourselves sick if we don't hear how things are going on a regular basis! Thanks for being thoughtful and continuing to update. |
Well, I sure hope he gets better soon! He has had a rough time lately!! And you have to! But you have a big heart! And you are a wonderful person for caring for him so much! Thank you for keeping us updated on his condition! We will just keep on prayin'. |
Poor Bimmer he has just been through so much. Schatzie and Ransom send HUGE fur kid hugs to Bimmer in hopes he begins to feel better real soon. |
Thank you, ladies. Without this forum I'd be certifiably insane. I get out of the office in 15 minutes and will head home to love on him some more. I'll keep you posted... |
Good! He needs his daddy!!! |
7:00 PM | Wednesday Night Tommorrow will be the one week anniversary of Bimmer falling ill. He's a fighter, for sure. Ceeby's Mom and I feel that our two Yorkies were seperated at birth with regard to their illnesses and eating habits. On her reccomendation, I picked up some Pedialyte and Gerber Meat Sticks after work tonight. Bimmer ate about 3/4 of one, but seemed to be more interested in the ground beef in my taco. At any rate, he has something in his stomach now and also 3 CC's of Pedialyte. I get the distinct impression that the only problem he has is whatever is causing him to shake his head. I think whatever it is is painful or disorienting to him and thus he doesn't have an appetite. Maybe it's an ear infection or mites? Hopefully the vet will know tommorrow. In the meantime, I took a video with my cell phone (pardon the quality) of Bimmer shaking his head. You can also see his wobbly walk. The video should play in Windows Media Player, but you won't hear any sound. Bimmer Video |

9:00 PM | Wednesday Night Looks like we just hit bottom again. :( Bimmer woke up and threw up a small bit of the Meat Sticks he'd eaten. In fact, it may have been all of it since he didn't really eat that much. As soon as he finished doing this he collapsed on his pee pad and was unresponsive. I immediately went into panick mode and started rubbing Karo syrup on his gums which were light grey/white in color. I repeated this for about ten minutes and his head suddenly popped up like he'd been shocked back to life and he had a look on his face like he didn't know where he was. I kept rubbing in the Karo syrup (it's a good thing these are baby teeth because they will be rotten in a couple weeks from all the sugar) despite his best efforts to fight me the whole time. The loving Dad part of me left my body and was replaced with a determined medical persona. I didn't care if he was uncomfortable, he was getting Karo syrup on his gums and I'd be damned if I cared one bit whether he liked it or not. It's been about 15 minutes since this all happened and he's back to the way he was yesterday. It's the weirdest damned thing. The whole root of his lethargic/non-eating/hypoglycemic behavior is that he WON'T EAT!!! He's going to the vet tommorrow morning and I'm not leaving until they tell me WHY he's not eating. He's shaking his head everytime he stands up which tells me THAT is the root of our problems. Is it ear mites? Ear infection? What!?!? He doesn't have "dog flu" because he acts completely normal so long as his sugar level is sky high. His stool isn't completely normal, but it's VERY close in firmness and color. Everything points at his not eating as the culprit, so I have to know WHY he's not eating. I'm just exhausted and need to vent... thanks for giving me the place to do it and I hope you'll forgive me. I pray that I get the chance to post on a forum other than this Sick/Injured one I've lived on for the majority of time I've had Bimmer. I called the breeder and told her that if the vet doesn't diagnose this problem tommorrow and have a solution in place then Bimmer is returning to her care and will be picked up if/when she nurses him back to health. My wife and I both work and can't be around to give him the care he needs and I'm not especially thrilled about leaving him with a vet for extended care that will run over $1000 and probably not yield anymore answers than the previous $1000 did. I'm close to my wits end. I just hope and pray that Bimmer still has alot of fight left in him because we have a long way to go before we're posting on the other areas of this forum. I'd be so happy to have him peeing all over the house right now if it meant he was back to his healthy self. |
OMG, my heart just really goes out to you. I wish I knew what to tell you, but he is so tiny that I am glad you are taking him back to the vet tomorrow. The eating issue is a big one, and I am just talking out loud here, and certainly don't know anything about this but, could he possibly have an earache? Is he on any medication that can cause lack of eating problems? It seems like it has something to do with his little ears. I saw the video and wow, what a little trooper you have there, not to mention you are doing one heck of a job. Thanks so very much for keeping us posted. I did not realize Bimmer is so tiny. I am glad you are going back to the vet tomorrow, and I would probably get very persistent with the vet. Something has to be done for this tiny furbaby. You have done so much for him and really need to pat yourself on the back. Good luck at the vet's tomorrow, and we all look forward to your update. Take care, Hugs to all of you, Kate |
I am concerned about Bimmer's size and his eating problems. As long as you are feeding him canned Little Cesar's he will have loose stools. I would try a little of dry kibble smashed up with a hammer til it is like coarse meal. Try a teaspoon of dry smashings with a wee bit of grated cheese (I keep fresh parmesan frozen. The reason I use it is because it is easy to grate, lasts forever, and stinks. Yorkies LOVE stink. You might add a smidgen of Little Cesar's but I want to add something that I have used with my Yorkies for years. I use BeneBac for any stress, meds, food changes etc..it is the beneficial bacteria in the bowel that gets knocked out of whack with so many things. It is the same ting as in actuve cultured yogurt...some dogs cannot tolerate the dairy products so I do not use them til the dog is older. Don't offer more than a teaspoon of food at a time but do it 3-4 times a day. Keep track of his weight. Also, I put NutriStat in their food or on their gums occasionally. Mine like it better than NutriCal cause it STINKS like fish oil.. I don't know if any of this helps and of course, clear everything with your vet. Feel free to PM me if you think I can help.. |
11:22 AM | Thursday Morning Just got back from the vet and have lots of news, so bear with me while I try to get it all out. 1. Coccidia is gone! 2. Bimmer DOES have some irritation in his ears and is now on an antibiotic ear ointment (Vetco Triple Antibiotic Ointment). 3. He may also have some fluid/congestion in his lungs and sinuses, so he's going back on Clavamox. 4. Eye goop is almost completely gone, but he's now on an optic antibiotic ointment (Genotic B-C) instead of the "lubrication-only" one he's been on. 5. He was SEVERELY dehydrated and received a fluid injection under his skin. 6. Vet says to give him 5 cc's of Pedialyte 6 times a day for a 30cc total. 7. Vet also thinks his appetite will come around once he's rehydrated sufficiently. 8. They cut off all his hair around his mouth, nose, and eyes as it was getting rock hard from the Karo syrup and other oral injections. He looks like a hedgehog now! I think that covers everything. Bimmer is resting in his cage for a couple of hours while the fluid injection kicks in. I'll get him out after that and see if he'll eat. More to come later... |
