my 3 year old yorkie just got diagnosed with pancreatitis Hello my 3 yr old female yorkie sophie seems to have pancreatitis per my vet. her lipase was 5000. she got sick this past weekend with the bloody loose stool. took her to the animal ED they ran some blood work and her electrolytes were off. they gave her iv fluids and a med to stop the diarrhea metronidazole. well this was this past Saturday she had loose stool Sunday no vomiting and she ate boiled white rice and chicken. Took her to vet yesterday and they ran more bloodwork which showed her lipase was high. Im not sure why. she has had some challenges in her short lifetime, has had seizures as a puppy and skin allergies. At her recent checkup a few weeks ago she was given a distemper shot and when i got home i realized she was swelling from the shot and had to take her back to vet due to allergic reaction. They aren't sure why her lipase is high. they think maybe she it has to do with the food i feed her which is natural balance limited ingredient sweet potato and fish. her diarrhea has stopped thankfully, so now the vet would like me to put her on a hydrolized dog food they sell. does anyone have experience with pancreatitis? any advice? food recommendations? |
I am so sorry to hear this news. I will keep Sophie in my prayers. |
Just seeing this....do hope things are better now for your girl. |
My Trixie was diagnosed with pancreatitis when she was around six years old. She was very sick for some weeks, not eating, not even wanting to get out of her bed, we thought we would lose her. The vet recommended I give her a little chicken and a sprinkling of charcoal and she started to get better, it felt like a miracle. From then on I kept her on a low fat diet - chicken, rice and low fat kibble. She lived for another 8 years until pancreatitis appeared again. |
So sorry your Sophie is having those problems. I have heard some of the vets put the pups on a prescription diet for the pancreatitis. I know others hear on YT have had some experience with it. Wishing you and Sophie the best! |
