Rapid breathing problems Hello all, Very stressed and hopeless right now. Our beloved yorkie for the past month or so has been breathing abnormally. We've gone to emeregency clinics , her vet but can't get a clear diagnosis. They said her blood work is normal she has has no heart murmur. They did ecg everything normal. An x ray was done and they believe she has a collapsed trachea (but hasn't been coughing ... very rarely) they believe her heart is slightly enlarged and they also believe she has bronchitis (again no couching) they've put her on antobiotics and steriods to help inflammation or any infection associated with bronchitis... but after all these meds ..no improvement! We are so stressed that they cannot give us a firm diagnosis. I've Googled her symptoms and it is similar to congestive heart failure...... trying to diagnose her myself because it seems like these vets cannot get to the bottom of it and we just continue dashing 1000 dollars..... wish we can find a vet that is knowledgeable and actually cares for our little family members. Also, the meds we've been giving her we hide with her delicious home food and she can smell it ! Which she ends up refusing to eat but eventually gives in. It's like she's telling us these pills and are not helping. She still eats, drinks and tend gets excited but I can tell she's in distress. She is turning 10 in august. Very depressed here.... hope some of you have some experience and can help out with any advice. Love, Concerned yorkie mom :( |
I forgot to mention her rapid breathing (see it frm her stomach going up and down fast) gets worse du ring gloomy raining days. .. |
I hope you can get some help , could you be referred to a vet school? |

Has she been tested for parasites...? |
Our little girl Tela has had the same problem with breathing difficulties especially in warm , humid weather conditions. We gad an X Ray done and it shows that she has an Enlongated soft palate , this seems to be a common problem with short nose dogs and small breeds , if the Vet had a difficult time placing the endotrachea tube down the throat then you know that there is a sure sign that the soft palate is blocking the air passage to the trachea. Please have an X Ray and Ultra sound done and a good Vet to confirm this soon as possible . |

I am sorry Ian is not feeling well.....but, don't count him out! He might live much longer than expected. I have seen it happen so many times! Meanwhile, enjoy each day with him. <3 |
I am sorry to hear about your baby. I don't have any advice but am sending you hugs. As the the pills I use the pill pockets by Greenies. Thumper loves them and now is in a routine to expect it during meal time. They come flavored so it masks the pill. He won't take a pill without it being hidden in the pill pocket. I buy the capsule size and break it in half to fit his two pills. |
