My baby got his shots & now I can't even touch him!!!! Hello everyone! I am a new mommy to a beautiful male yorkie. Sooo cute! Today he got his bordetella and distemper shot! OMG she cried sooo bad as he got his shot :( Afterward, my boyfriend & I carried him to The Healthy Spot to get him a treat, put him to rest for about an hour, & when I picked him up again... WPWZERS! Such a LOUD yelp. It hurt my ears to be honest! I called his doctor they said it's normal & could last up to 24/48 hrs. To make matters worse they close tomorrow (Sunday). I don't mind taking him to my local doggy hospital, but is this normal for such a small dog? I've had maltese but this was never an issue. Ugh! I don't even want to move him. This happened at 10:30am & right now (9:00pm) he was walking with a little limp. :( PLEASE! If anyone has experienced this before let me know to call me down a bit  |
For some kiddos, this happens unfortunately - poor baby :(! You could give some Benadryl (1-2mg/lb) and also apply some topical steroid cream to the area. |

I do this each time, just because of these posts. Protects my gal and gives me peace of mind. |
He woke up in better spirits but still in pain. I tried to pick him up & there was a LOUD yelp. His limp seems to have gone away... I think I should keep him comfy & resting the remainder of the day. Tomorrow if he's the same way I'll call his doctor. For now I'll try the Benadryl. Is that to keep him sleepy & rested? |
@JennaPenny Yes I was freaking out. Poor baby. But diarrhea or vomit, or any sort of swelling/hives (which I was told was more of a severe case). Just me picking up his little body to go potty hurts him A LOT :( Ugh! |
My Boy Joey after any shot has really bad pain and reactions that the vet gives us pain meds. Some soreness is normal but my boy will hurt like every where and shake. Next time I would make sure to get some pain meds. |

Luckily, I never have had this reaction. I do give the dye free Children's Benadryl with dipenhydramine as the only ingredient at the rate of 1 mg per pound 30 to 45 minutes prior. Each teaspoon has 12.5 mg. in it so a very small amount. One milliliter (5 ml in each teaspoon) has 2.5 milligrams so be very careful. This wouldn't prevent pain just allergic reactions. I always give in the scruff of the neck wondering if giving in the leg causes more pain. I don't give the bordatella so not sure about that one. |

This site will give you the dose per weight for liquid and the pill. Benadryl For Dogs: Dosage, Side Effects and More Benadryl is actually very safe you could even double the dose for really had reactions and it would not cause harm. |
Thank you all so much for the advice! This new mommy feels relieved. I don't think he has an allergic reaction since he's being very playful. No vomit , no swelling, no diarrhea thank God. I even had my dad come over & check him out. Lol I'm just scared to touch his little body. But he seems fine my dad played with him & picked him up very gently. He didn't cry... Let's hope he has a better day tomorrow! If not I'll call his doctor. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! ❤️❤️❤️ |
Hope you have a good evening and a better day tomotrrow. Usually it gets better each day! |
