Addison's disease Hello I'm new here. My precious 8yr old yorkie Jake, has just been diagnosed with Addison's. Anyone else here has a fur baby with this? |
My Anna was diagnosed about a month ago. She was very ill and received various diagnoses before the vet finally started treating her for Addison's. She gets 1/4 of a 5mg prednisolone each morning and so far she's doing great. I honestly thought we were going to have to put her down. She couldn't even stand on her own and her whole body would just shake. There is a facebook page for dogs with addison's. She is around 10 years old.....not sure of exact age. We got her from a shelter. |
So she doesn't take shots along with her oral medicine? Jake was the same way. He looked like he was on ice all 4 feet spread out. We took him to the vet for an emergency call on Jan 1st. She first thought it was neurological and gave him a steroid shot. He was better the next day and back to his old self. About a month or so started back but he was just stumbling some. They have had him on a steroid daily. He has improved some but still real unsteady. Yesterday they did the blood test for Addison's and I was called late this afternoon to give me the news |

I'm assuming my vet thinks atypical addison's which is why she only needs steroids. I had considered taking her to a specialist, but she's doing very well. She has gained nearly all of her lost weight back and is very active again. Yes, her legs would give out when she would try to walk. It was awful. Her whole body would just shiver. Her blood work came back with a high white blood count and low glucose. All of the other labs were normal. |
I don't know alot about it...yet My Emma was just diagnosed. There are two pieces of the addison's puzzle, i'm not familiar yet what that means. The one my dog has only requires the steroid. If it were the other I was told she would need shots. Hope that helps - it looks like these posts were from quite a while ago, but it might help someone else. |
