Bella with vomiting and diarrhea following grooming. We had Bella groomed at Petsmart yesterday, and normally she tolerates it very well, but this morning we found out that Bella threw up considerably in the night (all of the food from her before-bedtime feeding), and when we took her to her potty pad, she had very liquid and extremely stinky diarrhea. No blood, thank goodness. Despite all of this, she still seems to have energy. She drank water and threw that up shortly afterwards, but then she ate some food and drank some more water and has held that down for a couple of hours so far. We called the vet and they said that it *sounds* like a stomach virus, and the most important thing is to keep her hydrated. Since she held down her food and water for now, we are keeping her at home under observation. I'm impressed by her resilience. If she gets lethargic or continues to throw up, they said to bring her in for tests. Keeping fingers crossed for Bella. I will update this later with her progress. |
Poor Bella. Hope she feels better soon. |
Update! I just called home, and Bella has managed to keep down the food and water she had this morning. Walter has also been giving her tiny pieces of lean ham (which she loves). I told Walter to put down a little more food for her. I want to introduce food to her gradually so she doesn't get overwhelmed and throw up again. Bella seems to be stable. I'll give another update after I get home from work. |
Glad to hear the encouraging word! Cali had something like that a couple, weeks ago - stayed around for a couple weeks at a low level. Labs were good, could not find any cause. Vet said they had 16 cases of doggie flu in 2 weeks. Hope Bella continues to improve! |
Hoping Bella is back to her lil of self tonight. |
Thanks everyone! Bella is eating and drinking normally now. I'll know for sure she's better tomorrow if her poop is back to normal. |
Just seeing this....so glad all is well!! :) |
Whew! Scary. So glad Bella fought this off bug or whatever off and is back to herself. So scary when they just begin pouring from both ends, especially after around another dog - immediately worry about some awful disease being passed on and what it could be. In another day, you should be able to fully relax and accept this was just one of those things that can happen. No matter what, something like this keeps us over-tense for a good while even after our baby is well again. |

Happy to see Bella is getting back to her bad lil self. |
I hope she continues to improve. If she doesn't, you may have to consider a head injury since she was at the groomers, on high tables, and had vomiting later. |
