Question on decontamination and exposure I just found out this afternoon that my daughter brought Toby (before he was diagnosed with Parvo) over to the house to meet my dogs while I was at work. My dogs are both current on vaccines but I was wondering if they can still get parvo from the pup. Also, what is the best way to clean my carpets? I have bleached or thrown away everything else but I'm not sure how to decontaminate my carpets and haven't been able to find it online. I want to do my best to get everything as clean as possible. I have read that it's very difficult to kill the virus and that it can live for months on surfaces and in the yard. |
If your dogs are current on vaccines it should be ok unless you bring in a new puppy. Bleach I think does kill it. |
No, if this puppy doesn't make it I know I can't bring in a new puppy for at least 6 months and I can't go visit anyone with pups because I read that I could possibly spread the virus and I would hate it if I were to cause anyone the heartache of a sick puppy. |
bleach but be careful & make sure you have great ventilation cause the bleach fumes can make everyone humans and dogs sick! |
A while ago there was a new member that bought home a puppy that had parvo, that puppy died, she cleaned everything with bleach but was told not to bring another puppy in her home for one year as the virus can live up to a year. I would do more research on life span of parvo virus. This is so very tragic for you. (((hugs))) |
Fortunately the little boy is going to make it! The vet says he can come home tomorrow! I will still be cleaning everything but at least he's going to be ok. Thanks for the info. |
